Question Group Buy: RUF spoiler module; any interest?

Is there any interest in a group buy for this item?

This is what it does:

"Ruf do offer a spoiler activation module, it changes the spoiler
elevation speed from 50 MPH to 75 MPH and will lower the spoiler at 45
mph. The module is in stock and is a plug and play option.

Possibly - what's the group purchase price vs. original price?

I have an interest, depending on cost.

There regular price is $325. I've email the person that gave me that quote to ask what discount, if any, might be available if 5 or more units were purchased and then what the price would be if 10 or more units were purchased.

I am awaiting his reply and will post same when I recieve it.

What advantage would the RUF spoiler module have ?
Why would anyone want to change the factory setup ?
I think I read somewhere on this board that Euro versions of the 993 do raise the spoiler at a higher speed (I think 120 km/h) because this is the speed it starts making a difference ... but I don't think there is anything wrong with raising the spoiler earlier ...

Just a thought ... plus I believe $325 can be spent somewhere else ... my opinion ...

It would have no advantage for you or anyone else who doesn't mind it popping up and down all the time at rather low speeds.

The spoiler going up and down ten times between here and the supermarket is very annoying and the RUF module works as advertised.

I put one in a year ago ($280 then) and am glad that I did. If memory serves me, with the RUF module the spoiler extends at 80 mph and retracts at 40 mph.

Guys, if you do buy them, make sure to test drive right away. It took RUF three times to send me one that worked at the correct speeds. They were good about this, but long delays in product coming from Germany, to Canada, to the US.

The modules are pricey, that is true. If I had thought of it over the winter I would have pulled the RUF module and taken it apart to compare with the original. Can't be much of a change to the electronics. I could have one of my solid state guys scope it out.

If someone has a spare (OEM) spoiler module to loan me, I will pull the RUF unit and compare the two. I can use my old module in the meantime. If the mod is DIY'able I can lay it out for everyone and maybe save the $$.

Edit Note:
Max's note below is correct. You will eventually spend the $325 anyway on spoiler maintenance.

I believe $325 can be spent somewhere else

.......yes, you can spend it on a new spoiler drive transmission, a new spoiler drive motor, and numerous new spoiler walls.

but, i must admit, my main motivation was keeping the spoiler down to maintain the clean look of the 911 silhouette around town.

Max,

I missed that post. Looks like we're screwed. To quote a previous comment, this isn't "simple stuff for the brain dead".

Well, I admit that it can be annoying when the spoiler comes up and down everytime I accelerate and then stop at a traffic light or traffic. But this is what the manual over-ride switch is for ... When you know you will be doing some quick driving, you simply raise the spoiler and you don't have to worry about it. The only valid argument is that for purists, it spoils the lines of the 911. It does however look cool, especially when people behind are pointing at it as it comes down when you stop at a traffic light.

Just some thoughts...

MD,

Love ya, man. But you're playing right into Porsche's hands.

The common belief here is that Porsche used the 5 mph/45 mph spoiler speeds in the US versus the 40 mph/80 mph for the ROW because they felt the Americans wanted to look cool racing from stop light to stop light with the wing going up and down.

Below is what I've been quoted.

The price on five or more would be $300.00 USD, I would prepay freight
if they were shipped to one destination, on 10 or more $ 285.00 USD

Delivery time on 5 to 10 units is 10-14 days.

Thanks

I have a FedEx account and I would estimate that the cost of shipping FedEx ground, insured for $300 would be somewhere between $5 to $10 depending where in the U.S. you lived.

I was quoted $20 shipping if I were to purchase one which would bring the cost for me to $345.

So how many are interested in participating?

AFAIK, there is NOT a different spoiler control unit for ROW cars. Therefore, their spoilers will raise and lower at the same speeds our N. American spoilers do.

one part number for all:

964 618 212 00

i'm sure some of the ROW rennlisters can tell us at what speed their spoilers deploy
