600 mile update: Barefoot vs driving shoes?
First of all, we all know how illogical the footbox setup is on our 993s. I feel that my feet are too wide to allow me, in normal/business type shoes to drive comfortably.
So I have found a temporary solution. I wear sandals everywhere, leave my (size 13) shoes in the trunk, and drive barefoot. I think that this is technically illegal , but it seems that this is the best solution so far. I have tried all my shoes, and the only ones that are remotely thin enough to get pedal feel are my New Balance runners.
Can anybody recommend a daily driver shoe for big footers?

CJ,
Barefoot is the only way to go. I wear size 14EEE, and always take my shoes off. I put them in the passenger footwell, or with a passenger, behind the passenger seat. For me, the problems with shoes are: too wide, too long, no feel. With shoes on while heel-and-toe downshifting, the toe of my shoes get caught up under the dash. With regular braking, I'd get either the throttle or the clutch in addition to the brake pedal.
Driving shoes are great, and I always wear them on the track, but aren't very practical for the street (and aren't very comfortable to walk in--at least for me). Some people wear the newer style driving shoes (Piloti, etc.) that are more comfortable to walk in, but the profile is much wider than a regular driving (racing) shoe.
Besides, barefoot gives you great pedal feel.

I'm size 13 as well, and pretty much the same problem. On the track I wear Sparco's which are awesome, On the street I have Piloti's which are not that bad, a pair of Cole Haan shoes which have extremely thin sole for the evening and a pair of Salvatore Ferragamo driving shoes which fit like a glove! problem with the Ferragamo's are that it is very difficult to find size for our feet so you have too look hard, plus they are very expensive...

Wow... all these biiig, looong feet!!!
Why on earth are you guys driving Porsches?
After all, I've had people tell me that a sports car, and especially a Porsche, is a means of compensating for... Uhhh... other shortcomings.
(Please read nothing into the fact that I have two)

Mike,
Now I'm worried... here let me take a peek. Yup. Still there.
SoCal-CJ,
There is NOTHING illegal (at least in California) with driving barefoot. Go for it.

I found jogging shoes (pointed curved nose, light weight, thin sole toward the front, wide/thick heel for heel and toe and tons of traction) are perfect for me but I have small feet. How about those slip-on beach shoes (for surfing?)? They don't help with walking but i think they beat barefoot

How about some foot hugging shoes like these... (I'm sure Puma doesn't cross over any other sponsors here?)
Speed Cat Leather OR Mostro . I have a version of the second shoe (white with red stripe and no holes). They have a thin sole so pretty good feel, velcro tie up so quick on and off. I got them because I liked the look of them (in the combination I got) and I can tell you, AT LEAST 10 people have stopped me in the street or even last weekends car show and asked where I got my shoes? Go figure!

Thanks guys. When Spring Training starts, I might go get those Puma shoes (there is an outlet on the way to AZ), our coaching staff isn't to hip to the needs of sportscar drivers or surfers, in fact we get fined for wearing sandals to the park...

I am a size 13 as well and wear canvas deck shoes at the track (need to get some better track shoes some day). The rest of the time I fight to find a decent position for my feet. I actually got the sole of my running shoe wedged on the clutch so bad once I ended popping the clutch at about 3000 RPMs by accident and looking really stupid as I pulled away from a stop on a residential street. Maybe I'll try the barefoot method (the thought has crossed my mind but seemed rather less than intelligent for some reason at the time - no offense intended).
