Everything is relative, but a worn 993 clutch does require more effort to depress than a new one. You would have to know what an unworn 993 clutch feels like in order to judge for yourself. If it slips, it's shot already.

From what you've posted, it sounds like you're dealing with a shady salesman, IMO. A racing clutch engages very quickly -- it goes from disengaged to engaged over a short distance of pedal travel. A 993 clutch does not feel like a racing clutch. It sounds to me that he's dismissive of a potential problem and that he'll say what he thinks he has to in order to make the sale.

To everyone who replied, thanks... it was extremely helpful for me to understand this issue.

In the end, the seller agreed to replace the clutch with new factory parts before I took delivery of the car (and widened the 1y warranty to cover the new clutch).

Wait!!!! For about the same price you can get the RS clutch and LWF (not sure if he was planning to replace the flywheel). This is a real improvement over stock, and at no real price diff.

Kevin, I appreciate your post, thanks... but I took delivery of my C4S with the new clutch before my March 23 post.

Based on the way the new clutch feels, it seems clear to me that the old one was slipping.

The 993 is in my opinion the coolest car ever made. I just hope that 5 to 10 years from now there will be a black 993 Turbo S with low miles for me to buy.
