Post BMC Air Filters

I am having a hell of a time installing this thing. Is there any trick to it? The airbox cover just won't slide into place.

The paper filter is fine. I have a feeling the BMC is too thick.

Any advice or tricks out there?

TIA.

It is a tight fit, the air box cover need to squeeze/pinch the rubber seals around the filter in order to fit.

Hook the hinge on the air box cover on the inner top side first and then just push against the rubber molding hard to squeeze the cover on there, and clip the strap on.

And BTW, make sure you unplug the rubber snorkel tube that's connected to the front of the air box cover first...

Do be careful of the BMC filter's outer silicone edge being cut off by the air filter cover. I noticed mine was completely cut off on the leading edge where the air filter cover clips are - most pressure there from the clips. However, the cut off part is not inside the air filter housing - so nothing would be sucked into the intake. On second thought, it may be wise to decrease the clamping force of the clamps to insure the silicone edging does not get cut off. but, of course, do not decrease the clamping force that much.

Hi, I seem to remember that there was a potential problem with an aftermarket filter the seal braking down and being apspirated-the K&N one if I am not mistaken. Is there any chance this could apply to the BMC filter?

I think the chances are high, that's why after two sets of them I decieded to go back to stock air filter unit. Car doesn't feel any different.

Hi Robin, the chances of this worry me. What do you make of the claims of increased airflow vs stock filter that they make on the BMC website? Surely more air= more power?or not?

Mark, (fellow 95 Cabber)
Had the same problem, I used the BMC air cover and BMC filer, but it snapped on with a little effort. Have had on for 4 months or so and have no problems. I guess if you keep taking on and off you may see problem of it cutting away some of the outer edge do to the tight fit. No need in my opinion to take on and off that often. Maybe ever 6 months. Any other questions about 95 cab.. shoot me an email...

Good Luck...

Thanks all for the advice. Installed fine, with a little work. See my next post on my new strut brace...
