Hank, Thank you for your prompt fax. Congrat's!

I see that members of POC were quite well represented back there. But after reviewing the cars entered, I have to keep reminding myself that this is "Club Racing"!!! It's the same out here, more & more GT3's & R's, Cup Cars...highly competitive. ...Now to get ready for the next event!

P.S. That 914-6 must have scooted...

Hey Gregg, Glad to see your post and how you are running. Have not been out yet, but Mid-Ohio is 1st. You are going?

Jerry,
I am afraid I won't be at Mid Ohio due to an event at my daughters school that we are going to.

Good luck to you, if Bryan Hayworth is in your group you are going to have your hands full. He has his car well sorted and is flying.

I will be there for Putnam, and possibly Gingerman. I hope to have a secret weapon for the Enduro at Putnam, I found a way to get some cheap horsepower.

Greg and Bill

I must have a different version of "Going Faster".

I too bring it, and browse it, every race weekend.

But based on my results I must have the
"(Barely) Going Faster" edition.

I enjoyed the report and thread, Greg. Thanks.

Greg, do you care to comment on the cheap horsepower? I know most anyone on this board would beg, borrow, and possibly steal to have such knowledge....

Horsepower is one way to achieve speed, reducing weight, particular unsprung and, if possible, rotating, might be even more fruitful to win races as it this would produce better acceleration, braking, suspension control, etc. Take, for example, a carbon fiber A Arm with bonded titanium bosses and monoballs for Type 964 and Type 993 -- a fraction of the weight of the original--and stiffer! Together with other engineering efforts, weight per corner could be reduced by more than 35 pounds (i.e., more than 140 pounds on the suspension alone)!

Robert, Do you have an autoclave in your garage?

No, neither a home unit nor home engineering would do it!

The cheap "horsepower" is to have someone with much better driving skills than I (pro driver) share the car with me during the enduro, unless he has another race. I am going to need it to stay in front of Bill in Chicago .
This cheap horsepower is also the best horsepower as a pro can over come a lack of hp with speed through the corners and momentum.

Perhaps you missed my sarcasm due to my omitted Anyway, just wondering where all the CF pieces are coming from that you like so much? A lot of us have been around this place for a while (some a lot longer than me) and yet we have never seen this stuff? Just curious, that's all.

All of these components and quite a few more were done in connection with a rather serious engineering project aimed at automotive weight reduction using a Porsche as a platform. In fact, a Type 964 has been used as a test car and more than 350 kg (771 pounds) has been removed --and this without replacing any of the steel body panels with carbon fiber or plastic and without removing any of the luxury features (e.g., A/C, stereo, etc.). In other words, if one took a present Porsche race car such as the GT3 RS weighing 1100 kg per ACO regulations, at least another 350 kg could be removed -- and each new component is stronger and/or more functional than the original (e.g., the one piece cast titanium uprights developed provides cooling which the factory race part does not and weighs one third that of the factory race piece, the carbon fiber suspension components are stiffer, etc.).

As to the standard of design and manufacturer, you might not have seen it before as none of it has been done by designers/engineers and manufacturers who normally do Porsche components. In fact, the parts in this project are the work of persons whose principal work is F1 (for the teams at the very front of the grid) and the production is by firms whose work is F1 and aerospace, i.e., in the automotive world, there is no higher standard.

Should the group wish, over the next 12 weeks, I would be happy to post additional pictures as they become available as, e.g., attached is a picture of a cast titanium upright that would be for a Type 964 or Type 993.

A real carbon fiber strut brace for a Type 993 --weighing but a few hundred grams and, frankly unlike almost all of the pieces out there, have a true and demonstrable benefit.

A three-way adjustable billet titanium strut with lightweight hose to the alloy canister and titanium quick disconnect value. The unit weighs 5+ pounds less than a Porsche factory race unit.

If you have to ask, you can’t afford it.

I have to ask. What’s this stuff cost? Can only a front running F1 team afford it?
