Default HANS Device Recommendation

Hello All,

After reading the recent DE safety threads, I too am ready to purchase a HANS device; any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

FastMaz,
What kind of info are you looking for?
I can tell you that I did some research on various restraints and really feel that the HANS was the best choice. I have a HANS device and for the first session I had it on it bothered me - after that, I haven't even noticed it. The only change I intend to make is to buy the quick releases as at times it can be a bit challenging to get it disconneded from the helmet.
Cheers,
Rick

I am ordering one as well as CarreraGT. I will probably get the economy model. I can't think that the Pro one is worth the almost $300 for an 8 OZ savings......

Good luck and be safe!!!!!

I've been thinking about a hans device as of late myself and, after reading this thread, decided today to check with HMS and Hansdevice.com and both said no to any type of group discount. Seems the Hans device people have a pretty strict pricing policy with distributors (which I kind of expected actually as they are the only manufacturer and there is a two week back log on their site).

My guess is that, with these devices just starting to find their way into the DE and club racing ranks it may be a little while before prices come down. I have seen a few people with them at recent DE's and expect that as they become more common this will move others to make the investment.

I have been saying to myself the last few days "Man I just spent 6k on a tranny and clutch/flywheel upgrade, seems rather irresponsible and foolish to not spend 1k on such an important saftey upgrade". That being said I am also getting a roll bar, new seats and 6 point hanesses installed before my next DE.

Looks like the price of $895 is the best there is out there but still less than one Fikse HM-10 (depending where you buy it of course).

Jamie,
For what it's worth, they offered a discount of $100 at the PRI show this winter - it might be worth pursuing to see if they'd at least match that number.

Thanks Rick. Was the discount from the Hans people themselves or from a distributor? Also, what is the PRI show?

Hello All,

Thanks for the replies and information.

What kind of protection does a neck collar offer?

Thanks again!

Fast, it offers zero protection. the issue is this. Your head is attached to your body by tendons, muscles and ligaments. While You can make the muscles in your neck stronger You can not make the base of your skull(the bone) stronger. When involved in a frontal or sideward collision your body being strapped in doesnt keep moving but your head does. The injury is a basal skull fracture(the base of your skull breaks off where all the tendons, ligs and muscles are attached). When your skull breaks, all the arteies, blood vessels etc get sheared off as your head keeps going and You fade to black. The forces we are dealing with make the collar irrelevant. What You have to have are basically some external tendons ie HANS, Isaac etc... to keep your head from leaving and breaking your skull off at the base. Hope this helps....
