I have them on my '97 Cab. I have had them for about a month and love them. They came with baffles that I had wrapped in fiberglass. After a week I removed the baffles and run them straight. The sound is loud. I like it so much that at times I don't turn the radio on and just enjoy the sound of the engine. I had a Harley that I ran loud pipes on too so it's in my blood. And yes, my wife and kid think it's too loud. But that's OK. It has made a great car even an even greater pleasure for me.

Hey Chuck, that's a good reference point- Harleys! How would you classify your supercup exhaust with loud pipes and 'quiet' on your Harley? I know it's a different sound, but do you have to yell to communicate when standing near the rear of the car?

I run them without baffles every single day. They don't bother my ears as long as I stay around 3000, and the sound is GENIUS! Buy them and don't look back; I still smile when I crank it up, and they have been on for about 6 months. The only caution is to be nice to your neighborhood... they are fairly tame at low RPM's so the 2200 RPM for 1 minute can't hurt.

I had a Harley FLH Bagger. (Sold it to buy the 993) This is one of the large cruisers. I had a set of Bassani pipes on it that are very similar to the Supercups. They even had removable baffles. The tones between the Harley and Porsche are different but they both pleasing to my ear. I, like Red, keep the RPM's down in the neighborhood and have had no complaints. I also have a smile and a good feeling when I first start the car. After reading several posts I was somewhat concerned with getting them. As a matter of fact, the folks at Fabspeed told me not to buy them because I had a Cab with a tiptronic. Wrong. It has made my daily driver commute car fun to drive. And to make a car fun on the freeways of Los Angeles during rush hour is not as easy task. I also have no problem talking to passengers with the top up or down or hearing the radio.

I bought mine used on eBay for just over $400. They were used and not pretty. The chrome was pitted and the pipes looked like used exhaust pipes. But once mounted all you see are the ends and they were in great shape. Because the sound is not for everyone, they do show up for sale now and then. If you're not in a rush keep you eyes open and a used set will show up.

Darin:

I run them straight, no baffles or turndowns. I am running the catalytic converter, though, so that makes them quieter than they would be without that. They are indeed loud, but I do drive them on the street and don't have a problem with them at all. In fact, I've gotten nothing but complements. They completely transform the car from timid to burly, even relative to other aftermarket exhausts. At Sears Point, the sound meter registered a touch less than 100db when I passed it at full throttle, so yes they are objectively loud. However, they are actually louder outside the car, particularly for people behind the car, than they are inside the car or from the front. If you stand outside the car, you can hear it driving away for many blocks, although you can't hear it coming until it is very close. When you are in the car, it is loud at idle and when you get on or off the gas, although when you are just cruising on the highway at steady state they actually quiet down such that you can still listen to the stereo, albeit still with a little bet of exhaust mixed in. Anyway, I wouldn't get anything else. Perhaps the coolest thing they do is the crackle and pop when you back off the gas, making the car really sound like a race car.

I'm in Belmont in Northern California if you want to see/hear them. However, I just put my B&B mufflers back on the car for the last GGR autocross (they had a 92 db sound limit at the site) and will keep it in that configuration until after I run Laguna at the end of May (again, 92 db sound limit). As soon as that event is over, though, I'll be putting the Supercups back on, at which point if you send me a PM I'll be happy to show you them.

Are there any pipes louder than RSRs but not as loud as these supercups?

Cave,

Fabspeed Maxflos (aka known as "Maxiflos" ) are louder than RSR's but have resonance between 2000-3000 or so rpms. Although I owned a pair but never installed them, I've been told that Mille Miglias sound similar to the Maxflos but are even a bit louder. Also, Monty Mufflers often get overlooked but at least one Rennlister (Ron in SC?) has reported favorably on them.

Gosh, that sound is so cool. When I get a real good pop, I have to let out a big smile.

I had Mille Miglia's before my supercups and they were pretty loud from directly behind the car. I just didn't like them though as they weren't loud enough while driving for me, even with the windows down. They were VERY high quality and the tips were beautiful.
