Default upsize from 205-50-17 to 225-45-17

Can someone explain to me the pros and cons of upsizing the front tire size from 205-50-17 to 225-45-17 for a 95 993 narrow body ?

Like Mike said, the 225's help with understeer. Although they look a little too big on 7" wide wheels, but perform fine. I have not had any issues with tires rubbing at full lock as well..

To generalize, most production cars, including our 993s, are designed to understeer so if driven into a turn at too high a speed they will leave the road going forward rather than spinning. A car that understeers is easier & safer for the "average" driver.

The larger contact patch of the 225 will add grip to the front reducing the understeer. However, w/225 the stock car will still understeer. The "pro" is noticably improved handling if the driver possesses the requisite skills. The "con" is a greater likelihood of leaving the road backwards if, as w/most of us, the driver's skills aren't as good as he thought at the limit.

For track or aggressive street driving, IMO it's a worthwhile change. For conservative street driving, the 205 is fine & may even be a safer setup.
