All this talk about Variorams and funny noises has me wondering if I'm missing a few horsies. Car pulls great all across the band and I've gone head to head with other V-ram 993's on the track. So I don't think I'm lacking any power. But I really cannot hear any change of tone when breaking 5k rpms. My airbox is drilled and I have Fabspeed MaxFlows. Would this cover up the noise? How can I find out once and for all if my V-ram works?

It may well be that your airbox and exhaust are drowning out the varioram. My cab is stock in these areas and there is an unmistakable change in overall engine tone when the varioram starts doing it's thing.
Ultimately, I would have suspected that it would still be audible even with the changes you have made, but bear in mind that I am not familiar with the sound deadening on the coupe, which is probably greater than the cab.

I have fabspeed mufflers and the factory drilled (motorsound) airbox lid, and I can definitely hear a change of tone at 5000+ rpm. Not as noticeable as with the stock mufflers and motorsound lid, but still an obvious sound change.

So should there be anything else besides the sound, like a boost or some noticeable increase in pull? My car is no slouch at all, but I just don't think it makes a different noise in the higher RPM band.

On my '96 it is VERY obvious at about 5,200 rpm that something is changing. The tone of the engine wail makes this awesome change. CAUTION: It's highly addictive!!! The power, or pull, doesn't change significantly but I think that is v-ram doing it's thing - i.e. modifying the intake path to achieve a flatter power curve.
