Hello all,
Just wondering if the dimensions on the 993 and 996 are the same. I'm in the market for a P-Car, but can't afford one yet. BTW why did Porsche ever change the shape. IMHO they should have just upgraded the 993 interior.

Warning: hornet's nest!

Biggest mistake they ever made (oh, no... Cayenne)
Hell tho', new 996 is a great car all the same... just not nearly as great.
993 dimensions are length 4,260mm, width 1,735mm (or 1,795mm for widebody)
996 dimensions are length 4,430mm, width 1,770mm
Cheers, W

Race Car
993:
wheelbase: 89.4 inches
height: 51.8 inches
width:68.3 inches
996:
wheelbase: 92.6 inches
height: 51.4 inches
width: 69.5 inches
Shape was changed so as to be able to interchange components with the boxster.

Chiming in with my opinion: I actually PREFER a full-leather 996 interior to that of a full-leather 993 interior. Then again, I gravitate to more modern conveniences, like digital controls, navigation, etc. I know it detracts from the overall "racer" feeling that is Porsche's true heritage, but the 9XX's spartan interior changed very little for more than 20 years!
No interior preference, though, would ever keep me from choosing a 996 over a 993. The exterior of the 993 is one of the finest automotive shapes in history, and a 996 is, well, not. I agree with Keith's original post: a 993 with an updated interior would be MY ultimate car......
