Post Question regarding driver mileage on 993's

I was just looking at the classifieds and of course looking at the for sale section for Porsche's and I noticed particularly really low mileage 993's for sale. Is it just over here and if not what kind of driving you mainly do? Seems to me any car should be driven more or at least on the track because there meant to be driven. Just my thought. Regards. Mike

Mine has 47k.

Someone on the board has 100k.

Saw and article recently where a guy in France just tripped 250k

Most of the ones I see around locally are in the 25-55k range.

Thumbs up

I try to drive it as much as I can but my commute to is kinda short although I take the long way still not too long. supposedly my E34 is my daily beater but I can't help it and most of the time I end up driving the 993

For the last couple of years I've been tracking it and now I'm at about 38K since 0(or close to it). Yes these cars beg to be redlined often
and the track is the place for that.

Cheers

..."regarding driver mileage..."

I'm only 33 but I got plenty of mileage... And most of those have been pretty rough usage...

I think I need full body off restoration or something.

It's good to hear some people do drive their Porsche's because it needs to be redlined once awhile. Isn't DE events great : )? Nice to see all different cars out there especially Porsche's. There great on the track. I'm planning on attending a DE event at Thunderhill May 5th and three of my friends will be participating('79 930 turbo/'95 993 and '97 993 tt). I never tracked against a 993 and my friend's 993 and 993 tt who only uses it for track only have done quite a few. Last time I was at Thunderhill- the only 993 was the tt and it smoked me on the straights and my friends '95 993 is pretty modified(suspension/rollbar/exhaust/header/cat/chipped/lightened) which my 996 is lightly modified so with his experience he'll smoke me to : (. Hopefully if anyone is in california(Bay area) be nice to see a nice collection of Porsche's out there. Regards. Mike

I am really ready to start putting some serious miles on my car this year. It has 3300 original miles on it (that is not a typo). I bought it last summer with 2200 miles and had several bizzare things happen that kept it off the road most of the time until I put it in storage for the winter. So needless to say I hope to put a bunch of miles on it this year to make up for lost time. <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />

Mike,

I bought mine in 2000 with only 6,000 miles, but have since driven it every day (still at only 15,000 miles due to the short distances in our small town). With Pirelli Wintersports, it handles the snow without muss or fuss. It's seeing more and more track time, as well.

I look forward to the day when it crosses 250,000 or 500,000 miles. I have no doubt it can do it, if I don't crunch it on the track. It's not leaving this family until I'm dead and buried (and even then, I'll try to haunt my son if he lets it go ).

Thought I would chime in since I was indirectly mentioned as one with 100k - in fact as of 5:49 a.m. this morning 119,976. I drive approximately 80 miles a day in my commute and since I have it on good authority (an insider) that the CHP shift change is 5:30 a.m., I do my best to ensure that there will be no carbon build up.

The only mods that I have are factory 18"s and an aftermarket stereo - but I am really thinking about Robin's mufflers.

Other than routine service - no issues, no complaints.

94,892 and counting...

I need to beat my record which is 227,532 in an '87 1/2 coupe GT - that is if I don't upgrade to a TT first

BTW, original clutch (though it's getting there) and no engine work (or any other work) other then normal PM since new.

mpm, how do you feel the original clutch is going?

In my last '87 911 Cab, it got progressively harder to push in as it wore out, at about 82K. Is this what you are experiencing? I should try the clutch on a lower mileage 993 to feel if there is any difference, because my original clutch seems to be getting harder to push in.

Terry,

My clutch isn't slipping - yet, but I've only got about an inch or so at the top where it engages, and it does not like high pressure lauches - not that I'm a stop light racer.

As far as the pedal feel, the 993 is much easier then your '87 cab (I had a trip black '87 BTW - loved that car, but your in cab country - not so here in NE except on those true cab days). From what I've heard the original hyrdrualic G50s the clutch was like a truck - which was certainly the case with mine.

With the 993 it's like butter...

Sorry, my profile did not come up with my last post. I have a '98 993 S, with 71K miles, and the clutch is beginning to feel a little stiff, but nowhere near as stiff as the '87 Cab at 82K when it needed a new clutch.

Anybody have the spec for clutch pedal pounds pressure for a '98 993, if there is such a number?
