GOt a aftermarket GT2 wing for my 993 Cabrio. Was wondering if the shocks could be doubled. I tried getting heavy duty shocks, but the cabrio rear deck lid shocks are different then the coupe.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
thanks

I agree with Matt. I had a set of new decklid shocks fitted when I added an RS America wing to my '91 C2 cab and they are more than sufficient to hold up the decklid with the wing. Your existing shocks are probably near the end of their service life. I would try a new set before doubling up the shocks.
I'm not sure what you're referring to with the cabrio vs. coupe shocks being different (they weren't for my 964). Maybe they are for 993's.
FYI-- According to my local Porsche dealer, the "turbo" decklid shocks and the "non-turbo" decklid shocks have the same part number. I guess Porsche decided that all 911's should have the "turbo" decklid shocks.

Let me guess, the turbo shocks (same part number) are more expensive? <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />
I replaced my rear shocks, and the new ones were so strong that the deck lid literally flew up when I pulled the release handle. I removed one, and the remaining shock is still plenty strong enough to raise the lid and hold it up. I’m sure two of these would hold up most any aftermarket wing. I purchased my replacements during one of Performance Products sales.

I don't know guys,
I went to the Porsche dealership and the Cabriolet rear deck lid shock part number is different than the coupe. Even Performance Products have a differnt shock for the coupe and the cab.
I'm so confused now =O(

It may very well be that 993 cabrio and coupe decklid shocks are different. Regardless of that point, you should try two *new* shocks (be they cabrio or whatever) before starting a custom double-shock installation process that you may not need.
