Bumper repaint
I have a 95 993 in midnight blue metallic and the front end has seen its share of rock damage from its PO. I 've read/tried using touch up paint-- doesn't look right. Is a complete respray of the bumper and hood the only way to go? If so what is the cost. I live in the Norfolk VA area. I would appreciate any recommendations on a good body shop
When I bought my Targa it was from Toronto...famous for sand on the roads in the Winter and lots of rocks. The front end had several rock chips, one headlight lense was chiped, turn signal lense was chipped, etc.
Fortunately I am good friends with the owner of one of the best body shops around so he "fixed" it up for me. He took the front bumper cover off, hood off, RS spoiler off, all lights out, window trim off, seals out, etc. and then removed all the pits, preps the paint and repainted the front of the car. On a polar silver care it is extermely difficult to blend the paint so you end up doing entire panels (like the hood).
He finished up, hand polished the paint, put in all new seals (including the one on the bumper cover), reassembled everything and it looks better than new. (Actually its true since there is orange peel in the original paint...its now glass like and flat!).
In short do to it right you need to dissasemble so you get no mask marks and then repaint, polish, prepare to replace seals that did not make the journey, and put it all together again..if you want it done right!
Cheers,
Mike
