One of my rear brake lights (the right one) is dimmer than the other one. Anyone have any ideas why this may be and how to cure it?

My experience with bulbs is that the filament may be broken but the two parts still touch in an intermittent way, or with a poor contact. This can lead you to believe that the problem is poor contact in the housing. I would replace the bulb and see what happens.
