Default Just a curious question

One of the Porsche dealers I visited had thrown me a question that was a little out there but interesting nevertheless.

They had a 1999 996, like new C2, 35K miles, silver, 6spd, good history with any 1999 quirks taken care of, and a 2 year Porsche warranty straight across for my 95 C4 with 40K miles.

At first I said are you nuts! But then one thinks about the warranty ..etc.

I won't bite, but am curious as to what would you do if you were offered the same? Bare in mind mine is a 1995 with just Fabspeed as the 'extra", and I realize many of you have some major investments in your 993s.

Anyway, thought it would be fun to ask.

Thanks
Rob

Hey Rob...sounds like they value your 993 far more than a 996...much like most everyone else....

That's VERY telling, especially since dealers generally buy at wholesale and sell at retail...

I wouldn't trade my '95 993 for a brand new 996, let alone a '99. BTW, my car is totally stock , though a suspension change is planned.

996 = BOOOOORRRRRIIIIINNNNGGGG!!!!!

(yes, I've driven one. And doubt if ANY 996 would be as reliable as my '95 993 has been over the 80K+ miles on it -warranty or no warranty. At 2 years and 1 minute - look out!)

Given that you live in Canada, I would bet that C4 sell at a premium. I have driven my 95 C4 alot in the snow with Bstone S03s and it does VERY well. Your low mileage helps. It sounds like they have a buyer already lined up and a low cost basis on the 996.

That's what I thought! Livefreeanddrive-I have a couple people interested in buying my car for $44K US, so any 993 in Canada has held up pretty good in price.
Thanks

I was about to write exactly whatr Steve wrote - I think that C4 would be very attractive in snow climates vs. C2 of any sort. At least in the mind of most people, which is the only thing that is important to the dealer.
