new 993 owner
Hi All,
Been enjoying the forum the past couple of months, having purchased my first 993 and, in fact, my first p-car (also an Audi fan as my username suggest). My car is a 96 black/black C4, single prior owner and very original. I debated about going with a black car (black is a hobby you know) but I have to say the paint presents as almost new so I am happy with the choice. Only surprise ($$) so far was that it needed a clutch and DMF, but on the upside the engine out service allowed my mechanic to give it a complete look over, easily change plugs, etc. Going to install a PCCM as the original head unit was replaced. I am also contemplating a refresh of the suspension components, possibly bring it to RoW M030 spec per the parts package from Elephant racing (welcome any first hand experiences with that change). I am not a purist per se but trying to limit modifications to options that would have been available on a 993 (even if not necessarily on a 96). Looking forward to learning and sharing as this journey evolves!

Welcome. 1st post completed w/ pics. Love them. Enjoy in good health.
No preference either way..., but if you want the OEM look, check out Continental (see Tore B's website) in addition to PCCM/PCR; at a fraction of the price.

I was too surprised given the low miles, but the difference before and after the new clutch and DMF was dramatic in terms of overall smoothness of the drivetrain and point of engagement. Pulls away without giving it any gas at all until just after the clutch has engaged.

^Sounds like you'll have plenty of happy motoring ahead of you with the clutch engine out service. Congrats! Welcome to the 993 club

Congrats on your new ownership of 993! super low mileage! The car looks superb!
Besides the Continental unit, have a look at the Blaupunkt Bremen sqr 46 dab. I went with the PCCM but probably not the best value for money.

Hi Adam,
Nice car!
I would drive it for a while before jumping in and changing lots of things.
If the struts are original they are the only items I would change from the get-go the other items I would hold off until you have driven the car for a year or so.
There is a discussion of struts and coil-overs on this page:

Hope this helps,
Andy

Thanks all for the helpful links and advice. Andy, this is the same "Adam" you have been advising by email recently, thanks so much for your very helpful website! It was crucial for getting the ODB monitors to self-test and pass CA smog (which the car did with flying colors BTW). Adam

Beautiful car, congratulations!
I’m surprised the car needed a clutch and DMF with only 34,000 miles. And probably just dirt, but that engine fan looks like it has 100,000 miles on it.
You’ll be amazed what an impact fresh bushings will have on the car. No need to throw a lot of parts at this, just refresh with sport hardness rubber bushes wherever you can.
