Post Help with CarFax report-long

I may be over reacting, but below is a letter I've sent to a private party seller ( I've XXXed the name) along with a portion of a CarFax report. Are my concerns valid? Am I reading the info correctly? I'm flying up on Wed. to get a ppi done and, if all chicks out, take delivery.

The car is perported to be perfect. OTOH, the only records reflect two oil changes. This is a 993tt.

Good evening, TXXX.

Thanks again for the calls you made for me. Much appreciated.

FYI, I ran a CARFAX and here is part of it:

It seems there were three owners, not two. Also, I dont understand why the car had to be smog tested 8 months after the original purchase. This makes me think it was a dealer demo or owner car (same thing) which would disturb me. Another title change and then something done by the Vehicle Service Center??

I'd like to get a bit more info regarding the above and would appreciate any assistance you may be able to give.

Thanks TXXX.

Bill,

I wouldn't worry too much about the CarFax report. When I bought my car in CA a little over a year ago, I learned that cars sold as new in CA will sometimes be registered with the Ca DMV initially by the dealer's inventory manager. Thus the first name that appears no the CarFax report is not really the first owner, but someone from the dealer.

As for the oil changes, don't sweat it. There's no reason for a service center to report an oil change to carfax, I'm not sure why they even bothered in your case. I would be much more interested in the car's records and or owner's manual dealer stamps. Both of these should be in order, or else I would be negotiating the lack of service history into the price.

Just remember, Good cars have good books.

cheers,

sean

Good morning and thanks for the insight on the dealer activities, Sean.

Regarding the service, the car only has 8000 miles on it. I'm not sure I would have serviced it differently myself. Perhaps an extra oil change. What would need servicing?

Thanks!

Hi Kim,

I certainly agree about the car needing to be used to be kept fresh. That is a concern of mine. Especially two years early on where hardly any milage was put on. In speaking with my mechanic however, the newer Porsches suffer less from this (seals, etc.) and he doesn't think it's a deal breaker. It's a tough call for me.
