Try an indie. Few dealerships will know these oldies anyway. Do not get pressured into buying today. Over the last 10+ years on RL, I’ve lost count of these “bad” purchases. Not saying you will, but be careful.

Why buy a 993 or even a 964 for that matter vs a newer or older 911:

Get a PPI !!! These cars are 25 years old and lots goes wrong or on its way out! Compression and Leakdown tests are a must! Worn valve guides will put you back $15k on a rebuilt Top End!

Do get a third party PPI for peace of mind.

I bought my 993 sight unseen. I would not recommend that to anyone. It turned out fine, but it was nerve wracking and, in hindsight, a bigger risk than I really even knew.

A good visual inspection and a nice hard drive can reveal a lot. These cars are pretty revealing of their flaws, IMO.

"The 993’s steering is extremely light, but fizzes and pops with every small road imperfection, sending frissons from your hands up your arms to the pleasure-centres of your brain. It’s phenomenal, a vinyl recording of a live concert"

PPI is a good idea. I got a PPI but it was a POST purchase inspection :-) Bought sight unseen from a reputable place and I got lucky I think. Found a few things to fix but was fortunate to get a vehicle that was in solid condition.

Let me know if you need local eyes on it. I'm only 30 miles from that shop

Should the PPI which is scheduled fall through give German Car Repair in Alpharetta, GA a try .. The GCR shop Principal is Alan. - His Tech's have decades of Porsche air-cooled experience. . (770) 649-8700 .. GA Hwy 400 north, Exit 13, then a 4mi straight shot to GCR.
Presently I'm out west although in a few (2-3) weeks we're N. Georgia bound.. Once home I'd be glad to assist with the 993s purchase and/or shipment arrangements. At the house we have a 2 post full height lift and plenty of Porsche 911 specific tools and reference materials.
Again, glad to assist in any way possible.

It was for me! I've had both a 981 CS as well as a 987 Spyder. I took a bit of a flyer on the 993, having never driven one before it showed up on the transporter. I could not be happier with the 993. It's the perfect mix between new and old, and I have no regrets buying it.

Although to be honest, I kind of regret selling my 981 CS. That's a similarly great car. Super practical for daily use, and it feels significantly smaller than the 991/992 911.

Dick Barbour seems to be a straight shooter - always willing to discuss Porsche and give helpful advice - and I have never bought from him.

I will second this. Alan runs a great shop
