Ha! That sucks, I don't think I want to dabble in wet sanding, at least not on a nice car until I knew what I was doing.

My car is single stage, so no clear do deal with. Read that Guards Red was only colour done in single stage.

Looks like you could see reflections in your old stone guards. Mine were completely hazy and translucent, stuck out like a sore thumb, no reflections.

Black ones look cool on your black car.

my detail guy uses the lamps for some kind of ceramic coat so he used the lamps to heat up the panel

i ordered the clear from FISTER and we used them as templates to make the black ones

i think it gives it a retro look

you can see the lamp in the pic here

thx

OUCH, I have never seen silver-colored guards before, has anyone else?
It almost looks like the guards were either body color oversprayed or an acrylic aftermarket respray underneath the original guards pulled off with it. I have never seen a pull-off like this with an original finish or a good urethane 2K aftermarket paint process.

Yeah the Polar silver cars have silver guards. I have two buddies with Polar TTs... all the same.

My cars first guards were very difficult! Goo Gone and putty blades etc plus heat took a very very long time. Have to be patient or walk away.
Next set I will try rapid remover and steam.
I did buy thicker but next will consider oe although thicker may hav saved paint from a stone or some road debris.
This is one of those tedious jobs. Not in the mood ? Send it to a pro!
Great work! Nice write up.

I tried Goo Gone with a putty knife like tool (upholstery tool but has same/similar edge to putty knife). Useless combination for adhesive removal and the "putty knife" was also useless on the film removal, film broke off in small shards. Go with a plastic razor blade, I provided a link to the one I used. World of difference, so easy for both film removal and adhesive removal. No damage to paint.

I wouldn't call it tedious, it's actually easy, just need a bit of time and the right tools. One could save time from my quoted time by not polishing or rinsing/washing periodically. I also didn't do both at the same time, so had to setup equipment twice (included in my quoted time).

Rapid Remover isn't readily available in GTA, I looked up distributors on their site and it's basically graphics supply shops. So I picked up at 403/Erin Mills area. Used about 1/3 quart for the job. $28/quart. I unfortunately bought 2 quarts, just to save me from going back out in case I needed more.

I used FD Motorsports 3M product. It's thick, don't know mils vs OEM.

Thanks for the compliments, figured I'd try and contribute something useful back to the 993 section after it's been helpful to me in my short ownership.
