Default Question for those skilled in electronics

I added blue tooth capacity to my Becker radio.

The unit works through the AUX function.

The blue tooth unit is powered by a switched ignition source. (use the sunroof power in the middle console).

I tapped into a power source in the center console and the wires run up to the blue tooth unit which plugs into the radio.

I have the blue tooth unit sitting behind the console also.

I am picking up some slight background noise (I believe its ignition noise) because my power wire runs near a loom in the console.?

Or is my blue tooth unit picking up some ignition noise?

Is there something I can wrap the wire in to prevent this.

Is there a better switched power source to tap into.

You may need to add a choke to the power wire running to the blue tooth and maybe the radio too.

Add a noise ‘filter’ or suppressor. The link Andy included is the easiest solution. It’s basically a ferrite (iron) clip that you put on the line to smooth out the signal.

You got power off the switch but where did you get ground? You may need to run the ground wire to the same ground point as the Becker.
There can be some big currents flowing through the chassis from the ignition and if one of those ground straps is 20yrs old then the resistance will produce a voltage which your Bluetooth source is sitting on top of.

It's more likely coming off your ground source. Get a ground loop isolator and change your grounding strap in your car. Easy day.

Iain,
Interesting, I have seen this in home electrical power applications where two linked devices do not share the same grounding point.

When you sort this out let us know how you did it,
This is what a choke is:

I would advise to tap ignition switched 12V and GND from the head unit power connector, it has got two power feeds, one switched and one permanent 12V.
It should be no problem to tap off this with a short harness insert, or to use clip-on taps.
Feeding from the sunroof power supply is not recommended, this circuit is powered whenever the doors are open and is meant for windows and sunroof operation only.
Cheers, Tore

A few questions:

Head unit power connector - to the radio? Becker radio have plug in sockets with wires in the back - hard to isolate. (Anyone have a photo)/?

Just unplug the main harness from the back and meter it out. It'll take 5 mins to figure out which wire to tap as per tore.
