Default Sport Classic wheels

Finally I installed 18" Sport Classics:

More images: http://jackart.fotopic.net/c78609.html

They look mutch better from back and from side. cause fill wheel arcs. I measured the weight with tires and they are mutch heavier than Cup 2 17" wheels. Total additional uncpring weght is abpot 16 kilograms! Driving first trip on even surface, accelerating and breaking, I still didn't notice big difference!

I also just purchased and installed Sport Classic IIs on my 1995 Cab. Really happy with them. The rears are 285 30s vs the 265 35s. I was a bit nervous that the larger rears would be a problem. Not so. They are great.

Jack, ditto to what mjsporsche just posted. I too love the look even thought they are a little difficult to keep clean. Love your white 993. Not sure why but white has always been my favorite porsche color. I have owned three, but my 993 is polar silver. By the way where is Estonia. Mick

Jack,

The wheels look awesome! I never liked the stock cup wheels. I was always surprised that Porsche used them for so long, particularly when they had so many other great wheels.

Wheels look great! Recently received a quote for four new Sport Classic with Conti tires for $2100 including shipping (from Porsche dealer). Does anyone know a source that has them at a lower price?

Thanks
Jim

Thanks for the pictures, Jack. It is nice to see what wheels would look like on a car of the same color. To me it is hard to tell what wheels would look like on my white car be seeing them on someone's black car.

Thanks also for the note about the weight. I knew they'd be heavier, but not that much!

Nice looking set-up, Jack. I did the same, and kept the 285s that were already on. I like the way they fill the well.

JW97C2S, I recently purchased a set from Brandywine Porsche in PA. I paid 1995 plus shipping. If I had to guess it was a set they had been sitting on for a while as I recommended them to someone else and I think they were out of stock by the time he contacted them. FYI when I decided to purchase a set I went to the dealer listing at the porsche web page and emailed about 10 different dealers parts departments to see what was available. I got responses from around half but Brandywine had the best price. Good luck.

Did you consider installing the steering rack brace? There has been much discussion on that fact that 95 993s did not have the brace (was standard in 96). Some say that the end of the 95 production run had the brace. Interesting that three Porsche dealers had no idea of the issue why there is concern. So far I have not installed the brace. I have not yet experienced vibrations or abnormal steering feel; but admittedly, the SCIIs have less than 100 miles on them so far!

That's quite alot more rotating unprung mass (35.2 lbs). I wonder how much more the tires would weigh (being wider but shorter)?

Yes, I am going to install the brace. Also I'd like to upgrade tie rod ends to improve steering sharpness.
