Default Rear tires for 18 inch RUFs?

I just bought a new set of RUFS and they recommend 285/30/18’s for the 10x18 et66 rears. Factory 10 inch et65 wheels are spec’d with 265/35/18’s. Anyone know if the 285’s will be a problem on a narrow body 993?

The ET66 10's will sit 1mm more inboard than the factory 10 ET65
The factory 10s w/ 285/30 have an issue at the right rear lip on a low car, the extra 1mm of clearance of the 10ET66 may or ay not alleviate that,
additionally there is very little clearance on the right rear inboard side w/ the 10 ET65, you loose 1mm of that clearance, probably not an issue but worth looking into before driving hard

Thanks Bill. Would you say it would be a better bet to go with the 265's? I don't really care which I use, I just don't want any issues.

On the front, RUF recommends 225/40's...any issues with them on a NB?

Thanks Bill!

I'd want 265/35 in back as a better balance when 225/40 are used in front

the 285/30s really want a 245/35 front for balance

I recently put RUFs on my narrow body and used 225/40 and 265/35 Michelin PS4S tires. Aside from a slightly stretched appearance on the rims they fit fine on the car.

Thanks 2red! I'll have to keep an eye out for your car when I'm in Mississauga!

Onami - love those RUF rims. They’ll look great on the 993. That’s the only wheel I’d buy to replace my TT OEMs. Very sharp.

Bill, I assume this holds true for a C2S as well?

I've been running with 285/30 in back with 225/40 up front as long as I've owned the car. The car used to have a problem with fender rubbing, and wider tires were out of the question. But with the MCS 2 ways, perhaps the 245's will now fit? The 225 tires rub on the inside if you turn the wheel full tilt.

Onami, beautiful wheels!! Sorry to interrupt your thread.

No problem Foxman. I like hearing about all of the various issues.

I had Rufs in 2011 on a NB car and I found some old pics tonight. I had 225’s and 285’s on that car with no rubbing. 265’s are on back order right now while the 285’s are in stock. Decisions, decisions!

To use 245/35 fronts you want , 8.5" wheels w/ ET54
yes there is rubbing at full lock on the inner wall w/ any of these front setups, it's not really an issue other than cosmetics

Mark- I’ve had various sizes over the years on NB and WB, and never an issue with stock ish specs. ET 66 is only 1mm more inboard than ET65. You won’t have an issue with 285 on the back unless you’re lower than say RS+10. For the front I’ve always ran 225/40. If there was ever any rubbing, it was very very minor. Tire selection is also a factor. For example, Michelin’s tend to be a bit meatier than Sumi in the same sizes. Gorgeous wheels btw

Thanks Nam! I’ve owned used RUFs before, but never had a set right out of the box. The finish is so nice I might just put them on the wall as garage art 😀
