Post Just Zaino'd, leatheriqued, Maguired, C4S for 1st time-I love my car!

Is it OK to love a car? It's my birthday today and instead of treating myself, I'm treating my car to it's first deluxe wax job. Zaino wax is unbelievable. Gino from Luxury Motors said the car was waxed before it was sold to me 3 weeks ago, but honestly, the car was kind of filthy in spots. I stripped off the old wax, polished up some ugly marks, put on the Zaino, and now it looks like a museum piece. How this car stayed so darn semi-pristine after having travelled 59k miles in Chicago's summers and winters is a mystery to me. Therein is the problem. I've spent so much time on it's cleaning today (and I still have 2 more coats to go, starting tomorrow morning) that I really don't want to mess it up driving it in bad weather. Originally when I bought it, I thought I would pretty much drive it whenever it wasn't snowy out or when I didn't need the 4 door. Now that it's sparkling clean, I kind of want to relegate it to "garage queen" status. I understand now why some owners of low mileage "perfect" condition 993's wouldn't want to drive it other than on sunny weekends.

Working the leatherique conditioner into the little bit of leather that's in the car (partial black leather) was a breeze. Working the Maguires vinyl formula into the rest of it took 3 times as long. I got the new black floor mats but I still need to treat myself to a "hot" Porsche keychain (what's the hot keychain of choice these days? I just got a cool "7" keychain for my 740i at the BMW dealer the other day and it really made me happy ). Hey, it's the little things...

Now that it's cleaner than clean, I can't believe this beautiful car is mine. I of course still comb the ads for cars here and there, but I can't imagine what I would want next. I am truly satisfied with my car for the long haul. I'm glad I went for the outlandish body style of the 4S as it's really grown on me. Waxing those wide hips in the rear was a joy. I lavished extra time on the fenders. It was hard to move onto other areas of the car. I've always been an as*man, like in the Seinfeld episode, and this car's got a sweet as*. My neighbor noticed the car for the first time today as he was cleaning his gutters and shouted "Nice car - did you get it on Ebay?!"

I guess I WILL enjoy it and drive it in good weather and bad, it's just going to be tough to want to drag it out in crappy weather, knowing how long it's going to take to clean it again. Cleaning those 18" tires is SO EASY! I never cleaned an 18" tire before. Not much to clean, really, as the sidewalls are practically non-existent. The wheels on the other hand are a bear. I guess I have to try that Simple Green stuff on them as the P21S wheel cleaner doesn't clean all the dirt in the extremely deep wheel wells and the cavernous rear's where the lug nuts go are brownish and unable to be cleaned w/ the P21S.

What a fantastic looking wheel. They'll be tough to keep clean, but they sure do look great when they are. I finally put Mintex Reds on my BMW 740i after years of cleaning ridiculous amounts of brake dust every few days. Do most people use stock pads for street only C4S's or is there something else I should switch to next time?

I bought a digital camera 2 weeks ago so I can take some pics when it's all finished. My wife asked me the other day "Why did you buy that camera, to take pictures of your car?" I stuttered and became defensive, as it seemed weird coming out of my wife's mouth, sort of like a put down that I'd care so much about this car that I'd want to take pics of it to share with others on the net. She doesn't understand the whole Rennlist/Roadfly/Porsche thing. I said, "Uh, no dear. Why, I can take pictures of you and our 8 year old girl and email them to our relatives. Oh, and yeah, I might take a pic now and then of the car to post on Rennlist..."

Enough for now. Part of the reason I spent so much time on the car today, is that when I go inside, I am glued to CNN's shuttle disaster reporting, and working on the car takes me away from that disturbing, gruesome news .

Cheers,
Steve

Steve, everytime I look in the rearview of my C2S, I smile at that booty because I am an as* man as well!
I just picked up my car on Friday, and since the Volvo is in the shop (115120 miles) I am taking the time to stretch the P-car's legs a little bit. I am really looking forward to my first day of car pampering, and I feel lame about "trying to keep the mileage down", but I love my car too. I need to show you guys some pics, it's too bad that there isn't a link where you can hear my motorsound intake and sport exhaust...wheeeeeeee!

Steve, I know exactly how you feel. I felt the same way the first day she arrived. A year later, it still hasn't worn off. Ear to ear grins everytime I wash or zaino her.

Glad to know I'm not the only one - I figured I wasn't. Any cool Porsche keychain recommendations?

I REALLY want to get that "Kills Bugs Fast" 911 Turbo poster I saw on Ebay last night as an "upgrade" to my garage. I guess the madness never stops. Cheap Porsche upgrades are all I'm allowed right now .

Time to finish the last 2 coats of wax, get out the hairdryer to work in the leatherique conditioner, figure out where to take the proposed pics before we get another snow, and DRIVE THE CAR !

I see I wasn't the only one taking advantage of the 40 degree weather here! I didn't get a chance to wax the car but as I was washing the fenders, especially the rear ones, I couldn't help but be taken with the sublime curves and "deck" of the back end. The thing looks like it wants to fly with those fenders sticking out in the wind. Like you, like so many before us and so many after us, my thoughts were, "Sweet a**!!"

What's the best thing about storing your 911 in winter?

Every spring you have a brand new car to relearn and enjoy.

I just can't bring myself to slog it out in winter with salt, SUV's, and pick-up tucks with ladders for cab access. Where I live, people are more careless in their driving habits as the weather worsens. I'm looking forward to that magic day in late February or early March when the C4S goes back in service. You folks in warmer climates may get to drive your beauty every day, but those of us who hibernate get the enjoyment of a "new car experience" every spring.

Cheers,

Fred R.

Anyone whobuys the wide body cars is an as*man.
I think the 911 is one of the few circumstances
where guys like the wideas*(ha,ha) I love zaino too. As far as keychains go, I like the silver
Porsche crest on a chain. Don't know if its still available or not though, got mine about a year ago.

With 18,000 miles since the car was first delivered in early 1995, this cars mileage is creeping up relatively slowly.

But it is just wonderful to get into the car, smell the leather after the doors have been closed up for a while, start up the engine and go for it....mind you my maintenance (oil changes etc) have gone up in an attempt to keep the car in good running order. One day it'll go back to being a daily driver, but for now its taking a nice break while I modify the life out of my wife's Saab 9-5 (trying to make it drive like a 993----mission impossible!!!)
