Default good bulb for clear turn/marker lens found

for those who have changed to the clear turn/marker lens in the front bumper of the 993, i just found a bulb that looks very nice behind it both lit and unlit.

when i changed to the clear lens i first put in an amber bulb but didnt like the look of the amber showing behind the clear lens w/unlit (looked like had a yellow spot in it). so i changed the bulb to clear.

then @ night the clear bulb made the lens look yellow and old looking and did not contrast well w/the headlight and parking light (in the fog light lens)

well now all is better, used a sylvania 1157A ST (silver star) bulb behind the clear lens. this bulb has a silvered glass that has a good modern look to it behind the clear lens and when lit is amber so the color contrast is good against the blue light of the headlights.

i have spent many hours searching for and installing different bulbs in the front of my car and these i am happy with.

I just called around my area and no one seems to have that particular bulb. Where did you find it?

TIA

turn/parking bulb is Sylvania part # 1157A ST

this is silverstar high performance lighting product

i first found them on sylvania's web site.

took about 8 stores to find it. mine were on the rack @ GI Joes.

you can also order through the Sylvania web site

the pair were under $20.

i experimented w/others but this looked the best to me.

a decent picture would require some pretty trick photography to catch the subtelness of the shades of light. i think i should leave that for another person or time.

I just ordered off their website and it came to just under $25 (shipping incl.)... I hope I got the right pair.

should be if they are 1157A ST

1157 is our bulb style

A is for amber (only when lit), come other colors i think also

ST is for silverstar, that gives it the european "Diadem" technology (the cool silver, rainbow looking bulb finish that hides the amber color light until it is lit)

they look sweet behind the clear lens to me

Well Doc you couldn't have had better timing with your post. I just bought some clear turn signal lenses for U.S. bumpers (shortys) last night on EBay. Now, with your help, I've gone to my local Kragen Auto Parts store and picked up a set of the 1157A ST's.

Looks like I'll be installing them this weekend along with my newly purchased big oval exhaust tips. Whooooooohooooooo!!!!!

Cheers
George

I found a pair locally and installed them in my new clear turn units tonight. The ones in the car were 1156-any significant difference electronicly with the 1157? These did fit and I'll be installing the units in the car after I get it inspected tomorrow (no use tempting the fates before then) so is there any difference the needed electricity (my guess is no)?
