The only thing the 993 loses out on the 964 is the seam welded chassis.

sooo for buying… you can buy the total 911 digital magazine, there’s an issue with a buying guide with a lot of information. I’d suggest buying a car with bucket seats as they are hard to find and very expensive on the 2nd hand market. the ones from Japan are actually fitted the speedster seats which have the trampoline insert which makes these seats the best buckets of the era.
Congratulations for the super cool purchase, first of all!
The differnce between 993 tt and RS is somehow the same between 992 turbo and 992 GT3.

I didn't know that the 964 RS was seam welded and not the 993 RS... is this really true? And if it is so, was the 993 RS CS seam welded?

I am asking this. because the lemon yellow 993 I am rebuilding is intended to be a clone (in the chassis) of the 993 rs cs without the full welded rollbar, and it has been fully seam welded in the chassis, so as it is right now, it is more similar to a 964 RS than to a 993 RS?

Thanks for the the congrats.

I've been told neither the 993RS nor the 993RS CS were seam welded. I haven't checked it when I tested a 993RS CS this summer.

Why not seem welded?

yesterday I was at the coachbuilder shop with the silver 993 carrera for some minor fix, and while the car was lifted we measured the door leak one time with car lifted and then with wheels on the ground, the same exact operation we did couple weeks ago on a mint original 993 RS, lifted the same exact way.
what we read was measured with a caliber and was almost 1mm difference on both the cars.
Of course there can be many aspects that can have an influence on the chassis flex, and for sure a stiffer upper part like when a welded matter cage is installed, would reduce the flex in such situation to Zero.
We did the same on a 993 convertible and there was 3 mm difference, so much that one door couldn't close at all.

I am now very curious how much will the yellow seam welded (following the Porsche specs) rebuilt chassis will behave, to see how much the seam welds can contribute to avoid flex in the lower part of the chassis.
