Package is on the way! I ordered the adjustable goldenrod for their 964 shifter. Ordered on November 1st so a lead time of just a little under two months.

Today I received my Numeric Racing shortshifter.
Looks great!

Nice! 964 or 993? I'm doing a C2 conversion on my 964. Maybe we could share notes.

It is a 1989 964 C4 which is now a special built steel Singer.
Many, many mods.
So I can help a bit.

I'd be very interested in a group but for the numeric short shift kit + adjustable shift rod (assuming I need the latter instead of numeric SSK + FDM golden rod?)

[Personal saga of my difficulty getting the GR back from Numeric Racing is enumerated above.]

Installation on the adjustable GR by "my" shop with multiple redundant bolts & red loctite has resulted in a nice short shift with very clear "feeling" of gearing.
Easy to snap through the gears without mis-shifts and Reverse CLEARLY feels separate

To be honest, I don't have any experience with other aftermarket options.
This solution, albeit a bit of a pain in the *** with some of the issues to get installed, works for me and is definitely a step up from OEM.

Can you provide guidance on how the GR was modified please? I have the GR and would prefer to modify it instead of buying another rod from Numeric.

I’m trying to do it myself, but am having a tough go of finding a proper solution. I’ve begun searching some motorsports parts websites for threaded rods and female threaded inserts. I’m thinking I can cut the GR and insert female threads on both ends. Then, use a threaded rod with opposite threads on both sides, and 4 nuts.

I can’t seem to find good parts and am wondering if an insert needs to be welded in. Or, can threads be cut into the interior of the GR after cutting.

Again, any guidance would be appreciated.

My GR was modified by Numeric.
Other than the images I posted above I would have NO idea what was done to the GR as shipping occurred directly between the shop and Numeric.

Thanks for the response.

I realized after posting, that it was probably bad form asking how to copy Numeric’s shifter on their own thread. Also, I thought you had done it yourself. If I don’t find the solution, I will reach out to them to see about modifications or a new one. I’ve had two cars with Numeric shifters and cables and installed two more for friends, in addition to hanging out with the guys at Carlisle Swap Meet. I love their products!

Please post what you find out here. I tried reaching out several times to see if I could have them modify my brand new, unused GR. No response. Crickets.

I tried installing my shifter kit and adjustable rod today and the rod end that connects to the shifter doesn’t fit, did you have this issue?

they sent you a gen 1 shifter component. The updated component doesn’t have that part that’s preventing the rod from locating over the hole. I would just dremel or hacksaw it off. That’s the only difference.

Haven’t read entire thread a\so don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but as someone who’s had the numeric shifter in other cars, I can report that I liked it a lot but in the 993 I had the Fister version installed and like it even more.

what did you like more about the Fister over the Numeric? I don't like the rubber boot interior look of the Fister is the main reason i'm against that SSK vs. this one but i do know i want to get some sort of a short shifter to make it feel more bolt-action like. Will (Rennthusiast) just put out a video a few hours ago recommending the SSK (
)

Would also like to bump to see if a group buy would be available for the Numeric Short Throw + Adjustable Rod kit (currently listed for $1000 on the website but would love to get it closer to $800 with a group buy) @Numeric Racing

Guys, I have the factory option (95 993), 241 Shorter shifting gear travel, and I absolutely love it. I have no desire to update this to Golden Rod etc. my shifting is tight and precise at 152k miles. I can’t see how upgrading this could get any better than what I have. I’m all into upgrades, but this one isn’t one of them. Thoughts?
