As recently as 7:00 this morning, my list of desired car upgrades was topped by an aluminum shifter and e-brake handle. Now, it's topped by a Sparco Evo II with 5 point harness. What happened? My first p-car track day at Laguna Seca.

Damn it was FUN!!! I was the terror of the novice group. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> It feels pretty good getting a wave-by from a Z06 and lapping a Ferrari twice in 7 laps. I was never passed except once by that beat up RX-7 with Hoosiers and 3 foot flames shooting out of his exhaust.

Of course, then I copped a ride with H2ONOO and realized just how fast a real driver can go. (Thanks again Matt!)

Man this is addictive, I want to go back out there right now. Just what I need, yet another expensive hobby. For those of you who spend a lot of time on the track, I understand now. And if you have never gone, GO!!! At least once.

I did my first DE at laguna! way back in november!, did sears point in dec....going to laguna in March!
I agree with you on...FUN, and ADDICTIVE!

Pete, you're much too modest... I saw the Z-06 guy wandering roung the paddock in the afternoon mumbling something about "sandbaggers in Porsches..." and the Ferrari guy complaining bitterly about "cherrypickers". When I reminded him the track day was a non-competitive event with no awards, trophies or any other form of recognition, he simply said "it's a turbo isn't it?". Oh well, next time you will be in the white group.

As far as my driving is concerned, I turned a total of 74 laps with a best time of 1:51. While that's a personal best, I was humbled by a green Miata that blew by me in the last session. All I could think was "it's a turbo, isn't it?".

We stopped by last week and checked the CART guys out as well. I'm always amazed at the speed those guys carry through turn 1.

I guess 850hp, 1250lbs, and HUGE cajones will get you round a 2.5 mile road course in 1:09! Sadly, my power, weight, and cajones are not up to that standard!

Dont forget the 4000 lbs of downforce these cars create in road coarse trim. Especially since Laguna is a aero-track.

I would love to drive the Porsche there. So many awesome corners. Some day.

I know what you mean. My reaction from my first DE was - I drove to the track in a street car & drove back in a race car.
You really can't fully appreciate these cars without some track time.
