Just my $0.02...

But since only mods are made to the internals of the muffler, I would not imagine the weight savings to be more than 1 pound or so.

Robin might have exact data on this, but I would not look to RSR's as a weight savings mod...

Regards

I just replaced my RSR cans with the stock Motorsound cans last week. There is a definite weight difference between the two types, with the RSR weighing slightly but perceptually less. I used the highly objective scientific method of holding one in each hand at the same time, then switching hands..... and thus concluded..

yep, the RSR can is notably lighter..... but not by a great deal.

I weighed mine. 15 lbs each before RSR mod, 10 lbs each after.

I got 14# on my stock mufflers. Maybe the Motorsound (Gillet) mufflers are a pound lighter?

Jim: I agree, as an independent mod, the RSR's don't offer much in terms of weight savings. However, as an overall "slim fast" diet...every .02 helps..a few pounds here a few there....next thing ya know.....you've pulled out 100lbs off the car. I can feel that weight reduction.....breaking is stronger....turn in is sharper....and it feels ever so slightly quicker.

CHIP: YOU DA MAN...that's the info I was looking for....10lbs saved total by replacing the mufflers......?? I'll take it.....if sound was worth any weight...I'd have another 50lbs easy !!

Mike...I responded in another RSR Thread going...but I have the Gillettes...and yes the tips, hardware (coupler) and pipe shaping are different. I can't imagine there would be any detectable sound differences between either make......

I don't know exactly what Robin does in there but since he's cutting the muffler open to expose the baffles one can only surmise those mellow exhaust tones are achieved by removing something, ergo the RSR muffler weighs less than the OE.

Mike,
I was installing Fabspeed's cat bypass pipes and wanted to put my stock cans back on. I may swap back in the RSR's at some point though.

I better have my scientific weighing system recalibrated, as my brain sure wasn't discerning a 40%-50% weight difference (14#-15# to 10#). Maybe 2# at the most.....

I ended up with 1 Bishof and 1 Gilette can in my RSR setup...BTW same as Robin had on his car at the time.....they are identical shaped cans, save for the biscuit gasket the Bishof requires to couple.... The sound coming from each tip is identical too

Peter.

Keith, I just installed my RSRs today!! I weight them before the install:

Stock Bischoff = 12lbs

RSR Bischoff = 7.5lbs

I love the sound that they make!! Coupled with burbles, pops and raspy raspy high rpm notes!!! Love them! Thanks for the tip Keith on Mark's RSRs!

Thanks to Mark of Baltimore for shipping them expeditously. They are very clean and in good condition.
