Post What is your annual maintenance costs?

I am close to taking a 1997 993 in for a PPI. I am curious about what my annual cost will be for maintenance items. If you exclude the cost of the 15K, 30K... service how much do you spend on other things for maintenance in an average year for routine things like oil changes, etc? I would plan to put 6K - 7K miles on the car a year.

Also for you golfers out there is it a real big hassle to get clubs in and out of the back seat? Or do they even fit back there? Thanks.

Tires,tires,tires...and the annual oilchange.

Tires for 2 porsches set me back around 2g annually. The oil change and annual detailing is 300 a car.

Its impossible to get the clubs in the back of the turbo. The cab is perfect

Tires are the big reoccuring cost. They last anywhere from 5K to 12K miles and will cost approximately $800/year.

Oil changes are pretty inexpensive, approx $150, but if you only drive 6K - 7K per year, you only need to get one once or twice a year.

What I don't believe it that you are actually going to drive it 6K - 7K per year. Even as a limited weekend car, it would be easy to put on that kind of mileage.

Modifications are where you are going to be taken to the cleaners. Realistically, I'd budget in about 2K/year for mods, etc.

Tom,

Check out Robin's site (p-car.com) for what one expects to spend on routine stuff.

Freeman,

Dan's just funnin' with you, man. Refrocked gurus have been known to become intoxicated with a newly found vengeance, which is NOT yet the case here.

(In all fairness, there have been reports of double posting, myself included. In further fairness, Dan's response was pretty effin' funny.)

Tom,

An interesting statistic that I've found to be true of almost all the used cars I've bought is that the highest anual maintainence costs occur in the 6th & 7th year after production (2003-2004 for your potential 1997 model) or between 60K-80K miles.

I've budgeted about $1500 a year for regular maintainence (no upgrades) and this has been on the high side - for things that really *needed* to be worked on.

Good Huntin'

I do oil changes, brake fluid changes, gearbox lube change, and brake pad changes myself. I go to the track about 3-4/yr. and put about 5k miles on a year. My maintenance runs about

$900 if I need new tires, 18" P-Zeros (every other year)
$250 for the above parts/fluids
------------------
So that avgs. out to be about $700 yr. not too bad if you can do the basics yourself.

Tom,

I can fit 1 set in the back - but if you bring your wife/significant other golfing with you they better be renting clubs at the course because there is no way you can fit 2 sets in (at that I know of)

Where did you get your PPI done?

Tom,

I can get 2 sets of clubs in the back seat and it isn't too difficult. I lay mine down across the back and then my wife's on top of those.
