I ordered a pump-prime version, however, when I turn the key to 'on' before the cranking position, I do not hear the fuel pump run.
When I crank the car, it starts just like it always has.
Does the pump activate when the key is in the 'on' position? If so, how long does it run when there?
BTW, my car is a NA 96 manual.
The SSR Pump-Prime should run the fuel pump for up to 3 seconds once the ignition is switched to the "ON" position. Does the SSR label have a "F9T-SSR-993-PP" part number? Also, It has come up that the 993 may not require the Pump-Prime feature, I can only assume this is because the DME is providing this functionality. In ether case, I would think you could hear the fuel pump with the ignition switch, but it could be the case that on the 993 it is it too faint to detect when it's running. If you like, I can send a replacement if you suspect it is defective.
Looking at pictures of this relay, I do not see why I could not create a solid-state version. Do these relays commonly fail?
- Joe
The same relay is used for the oil cooler fan, the AC condenser fan, and the rear blower motor. I can't speak for everyone, but I have had to replace two out of the three. The slow speed contacts failed on them. If you make them, I would definitely buy two of them.

Hi Dan,
There is no logic in the circuitry, so it would be a fairly straight forward design. I will open a backlog project for this and try to get samples of the enclosure. Assuming I can get this project off the ground, would you be willing to test prototypes?

Yes, I would be willing to test them. I could also send you out a relay to reverse engineer if it would help.

Yes, that would help, especially if it was one of the failed relays. This helps me understand the nature of the failure to help guide the design requirements. It also gives me an idea of how much space I have to work with for electronics.
My F9 relay sometimes keeps the pump running, but not every time. I just move the key back to position 0 and it stops. Never had issues of car not starting though.
Test units for the updated Solid-State Relays are going to be delayed about a week. There was a small issue with the updated 993 SSR that required new circuit boards. Also the main switching Componet for the "Extreme" SSR is no longer available due to the global chip shortage. This version, as well as the 944/968 Solid-State Fan Relay, is on indefinite hold until the part becomes available.

What you describe is not normal, can you send me a PM with your ode number or address? I would like to send you out the same test SSRs to see if it corrects your issue.

Yesterday I sent out two test Solid-State Relays to everyone in the Beta test group, I expect both relays will function correctly in the 993. The first relay reverts the recent changes in the SSR design. The second relays is the updated "Rev 2" design that incorporates the intent of the minor changes and, in theory, fundamentally corrects this issue. If you did not receive an email and where expecting to be apart of Beta testing please send me a PM or email me directly at joe@ftech9.com.
