Unpopular Opinions: 993 Edition

Well yeah I re-checked. 993 had 0-100 km/h 5.6 seconds. Varioram had 5.3 seconds.
The first gen Testarossa had 5.7 seconds. But the 1990's versions were faster (which were of course more comparable).

But yeah... doesn't really matter. They were fast back in the day. Not particularly fast anymore. But 270 km/h top speed is still pretty damn fast.

The worst part of an air cooled car….is the air cooled engine.

For posterity ...and yes, lots of this has already been said on this monster thread. But who cares!!
1. NB cars look better than the WB because of the rockers and nose.
2. The basket handle looks great and intentional.
3. The 95's OBD1 is well worth the trade off of a scant few HPs in the OBD2 cars.
4. The stock 17" Cups look perfect when the car is lowered. Corollary: almost every aftermarket wheel look like crap on the 993.
5. All of the wings look ugly on a 993, all of them; the only exception is the RS tail.
6. The ducktail is seriously hideous on a 993; an absolute aesthetic abomination.
7. I wish I did have a tip for a second 993..
8. This is a fun thread

I don't get 'em.
Sure they're fast but they're completely soulless. And the interiors are pretty awful.
It's like quartz watch being always more accurate than a mechanical, automatic watch. Yet only the latter are desirable and have any kind of real collector value.

I've driven those superfast Model S's. Not Plaid but some older one that had the "Ludicrous" mode.

Ironically the same friend who owns the Model S ludicrous bought this grey 964 last summer (my car on the right).
He said that he also wants to own a real car. LOL.

I'm amazed one one yet has mentioned that 6 speeds are well known maintenance hogs, with their fragile clutches, etc.

I am no luddite; I appreciate --and often enjoy-- what new tech brings to the table. And when it makes sense for me, I indulge in that new and cool slice of pie. But I always must have one leg firmly planted in the days of analog, where mechanical precision was not only enjoyed but revered. A finely crafted machine to me is art, working art, deserving of recognition for its contribution in both function and form. Who wouldn't love a 918 (or whatever next comes around), right? Teslas are a cool have; most every other electric is a mere toaster. But as cool as the former is, it must be accompanied by its progenitor to fully realize the joy. At least for me
