Post Bye Bye Turbo

My car is sold and delivered - I am going to miss it. While I am not abandoning Rennlist, I will certianly be less active without a P-Car but I won't have my new toy until ~June (Radical SR3).

Thanks to everyone for making this such a great place. I have made some very good friends here and look forward to still seeing and chatting with those people.

For you newer members and lurkers - think about what you want the forum to be. Then contribute and make it the place you want. I joined in a few years ago, and there was a strong established group then, just as there is now, and I was an 'outsider'. It is not hard to become part of that group - contribute where you can, learn and enjoy. If you stray from what the majority want, then adjust and try to gently sway the forum. There is no need to whine or pretend you are not liked or wanted here - that is not true. This place is at a crossroads and it is up to the newer participants to take the forum to whatever it will be next.

Again, thanks for making this such a fun and entertaining place.

Mark

A sad day. I have a friend who recently sold his 993 C2 and 993 TT and I still don't understand it. Something about a fancy house and sending kids to school

Sound advice to would be Rennlisters. For a long time I've been wary of stepping on anyones toes are sounding like a silly newbie - but as I've grown to know the car and the community more I keep coming back.

A truly fine board.

Oh no... I know that we are all going to miss your advice and contributions to this board.

Keep us updated on that "other" car.

Hi Mark,

Even though you no longer have the 993TT, I surely hope that you will stop by and visit us every now and then. We'll certainly miss you here.

I have read many of your posts (here, Tracquest and Motorsport-Audiworld forum) and I enjoyed reading and learning from your posts. And meeting you in person & getting instruction from you at Buttonwillow last year was also a special treat to a new rookie like me

I'm really looking forward to getting a ride in your racecar someday but in the meantime I guess I'd have to bring a rope and a skateboard and hook it into your Spec Racer and try *very hard* to hang on

Looking forward to seeing you at Laguna Seca next month, Mark.

Jeff,

You will continue to see me at TQ and other DE events. Part of the reason for the change is that I want something faster and a pure racecar on the track, but need a 2 seater as I really enjoy instructing and giving rides.

I hope that I can have the new car at TQ Thunderhill in July. Here is a link to a photo:

Lap record at Willow for this class of car is 1:19.xx

Mark,

Just read about the Radical SR3 in the UK mag Evo. Sounds like an incredible track car: 252 hp (through a 1500 cc Suzuki engine), only 500 kg!!!, molded carbon/Kevlar fiber seats, and supposedly even road legal (in Britain). They quote a price of 40K British pounds.

How did you get it to the US, if you don't mind me asking? It sounds like a very tempting proposition.

Thanks!

There are two versions. In the UK, there is a Tracksport, which is road legal and with engines up to 1100cc/185HP. There is also a 'pure' race car, the Super Sport. Base with 1300cc /~200 HP. They have an optional 1500cc / 252 HP (no one believes that number). Both engines in the SuperSport are SCCA CSR legal. What I am purchasing is a race car, not legal for road, hence it does not enter the country as a car. I have no intention of trying to put it on the road, only race tracks.

Radical is not the best engine builder for the really HOT motor, so I intend to use the 1300 (still faster than my modified TT in a straight line and ~2g cornering). If I get serious about racing it in SCCA (this is my second race car, so I am not sure how much I will race it, vs trackdays) I will hve a 1500 built by someone else who can get a real and more reliable 250+ HP.

US price on the 1300 Super Sport is ~$41k base. I am adding ~$5-7k in options. If you would like more details, eMail me.

Thanks for all the help on the tt forum. I hope you will still contribute your extensive experience from time to time.

Best of luck with the new car. It looks, well, errr, pretty radical!! <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

See you at Thunderhill, I hope! We see if the new car can make me smile as much as the old one . . .
