Default Upgrading to RS steering wheel.....what do I need?

I am ready to ditch the OEM steering wheel of my 1996 993 Carrera Coupe, non airbag RS wheel is my ideal replacement. Can someone let me know what other items I need besides the steering wheel to complete the swap?

Thanks,

This is a nice upgrade, you already know this steering wheel is without airbag right?
In order to make a good job, you need to change the plastic cover of the top part of steering column, since the RS had the older 964 style cover, while the 93 was shaped to follow the contour of the back of the 993 steering wheel.
Then you need an electrical resistance, that when I bought the CUP wheel from Gert Carnewal came together with the wheel and the hub.
If I was able to do it already 7/8 years ago, all by myself, it is something anyone can do: you just need to carefully collect info and be precise, because it is 90% electrical job, 10% mechanical.

It is a super cool upgrade, it gives great satisfaction doing it.

When I did it, I was very worried that while removing the airbag it might be activeted from some kind of eddy current, so I disconnected the battery for 24 hours before even touching the orange connector (everything related to the airbag is colored orange in our 993)

Have fun!

This came from Pelican and makes it where you can see your speedometer. Get the black one if you don't like to paint things.

Prior to posting I did a quick forum search and I did not find many useful results......may be my search game is lacking today.......I remembered reading about this a long while ago, just couldn't find it now that I am looking. A point in the right direction via a link would be most helpful.

Now that the airbag is 25 years old, not sure I trust having that so close to my face anyways. Thanks for the tips, I will look into the adapter and Carnewal

imho the 968 CS wheel is much nicer and has a thicker rim. I've had both.

To my eye the RS wheel always looked droopy. Totally agree the OEM wheel is an eye sore.

I love the Momo Prototipo wheel. It just looks so good in these cars. If you have the full leather dash you should pay for the upgraded smooth leather and it works beautifully.

These photos show the wheel in Carbon Fiber. I actually ordered the wheel in brushed black aluminum as I did not want the bling in my car. I’m also going to use the black leather embossed Porsche center rather than the yellow Momo shown.

I got the connectors from Brian at Einmalig. He cut them off a bad clock spring so the cost was very reasonable.

Not a fan of the RS Wheel... much prefer my OEM Porsche MOMO 993 Cup wheel

Depends on the style you're giving to the car. I'm keeping mine OEM+ and not too racing; aesthetically.
I like a properly maintained or reupholstered OEM wheel; or a 993 3 spoke wheel.
personal tastes.

RS wheel has the best feel of all the options and is most correct for the 993 aesthetic, IMO.

OP - check archives. Tons of threads on this. You need to get a clock spring and harvest some plugs, source the appropriate resistor and buy the correct column shrouds. I bought my wheel/hub from Gert at Carnewal.com. I've owned both types of MOMO wheels and found the positioning, feel, rim design and gauge visibility of the RS to be the best of the bunch.
