Default What does this unplugged harness connector do

Hi everyone,

I own a 991 and had a 997 and pretty good working on cars but need advice. I just picked up a 58k mile 993 Targa manual trans, no rust, for stupid cheap money as the guy couldnt get it to run right as it has electrical issues due to moisture from the leaking targa top and has been sitting since 2017. So im going through every inch of this cars wiring as if it was a flood car and I noticed that this engine connector is disconnected and taped up. What does it do and why would someone disconnect and tape it up?

Thanks
Sean

Are we looking at the left side of the engine compartment along the side of the heating blower duct?
Please advise,
Andy

can't tell which one you are talking about. Can you point to the one you are talking about?

Does your cruise control work? Looks like the cruise control plug to me.

Left side of the engine.

Yes, the taped over connectors on the left side. I checked the option numbers and the car has cruise control. The previous owner said he was having problems with the motor reving so I guess he must of unplugged it.

Thanks.. I appreciate it. I’ll leave it be, one less problem to track down.

Wonder if should just pull this motor and do all the maintenance on it, green color is pollen as it was sitting under a tree, old leaves as well.

I do recall an extra plug for some 1995 's that had the wiring harness recall done. It was taped over like that.

There is a micro switch on the clutch pedal arm that disconnects the cruise control if the clutch is depressed with the cc on. Not sure under what circumstances your car would over rev but this may play a part.

Ok will check that out as well.

Hey CGFEN... nice 69! I had a 68 convertible but my friend really wanted it for his family so I sold it to him.

Are you sure the car didn't spend time sitting in water? The cruise control module is under the passenger seat. if it's gotten wet, all sorts of weird things can happen.

The problem could be mechanical vs electronic. After R&R of the intake manifold, the plastic retainer for the cruise servo rod in the throttle arm would come loose at times - usually after pushing the pedal down hard - and then cause the throttle to hang up. Several incidents of having to turn the key off and jam the throttle pedal a few times to reset things made me unhappy and I don't use the CC anyway so I removed the retainer, dropped out the servo rod, and all is well.

Piling on - nice to see some old Mopar iron. I built a 72 cuda 340 that took way too long to do but was quite fun in the end: 68++ engine spec, 4 speed, firm-feel steering box & nicely matched t-bars, springs and sway bars, Koni Reds, and 4 wheel disks using Viper calipers up front. Porsche content, too, in the form of late 80s 944/911 seats. It was a riot to drive.

Prswil...

That brings a up a good question. The car has moisture damage as it was stored under a tree outside for 4 years, I took a pic under the passenger seat and it looks rough. I need to get a battery in the car or a safer bet is to try to power up the seats by themselves first and move them to get to the bolts to remove them and then check all the electronics.

Afraid to just power up the car.

The drivers side looks good.

I assume that cruise control is connected to the white cable or is that the immobilizer?

Ed, I’ll check those rods as well. Oh and nice 72. That and the 73 are my favorites due to the round tail lights. It’s a car on my bucket list for sure.

Are those RUF wheels on it? Haha....

Ha - no, OEM Mustang! Purists hated them but I love me a good 5 spoke wheel and those are forged, light, and were very cheap at the time.
