993 c4s, how many stock, how many modified?
hello fellow rennlisters:
let us take a poll:
how many 993 c4s owners have a "bone" stock car ?
how many have jumped to the dark side.....the best side...
thanks
jeff

My previous car was more on the bone stock side than the dark side. It had PSS9's and 18" HRE's. Other than that, everything else was just a factory option including the aluminum door sills, shifter, ebrake, white faced guages. Oh yeah, aluminum pedals and 3 spoke steering wheel.
My current TT is also more stock than not with 18" HRE's, PSS9's, Fabspeed Maxflos and LWF.

Mine's heavily modified - I have the C4S door sills, Fabspeed oval tips, a black piece of gaffer's tape over the CEL, & that round little aluminum piece on my leather stock shifter. Oh, and I also have a Grateful Dead sticker in the rear windshield and rear window.
So, yes - it's bone stock. Mostly as I don't have much money to invest in it now. That's cool, though. I don't mind it just the way it is, and I obviously don't track it or it wouldn't be stock! The track is dangerous, as you see lots of other guys with all the hot mods. It's important that I spend as little time with other 993 owners so I don't "catch the mod bug".
The DC area Meet and Drive this weekend will be a test of faith for me. I have a feeling I'm going to come out of it ordering the 996 MY steering wheel the very next day! There's nothing like a new SW to change the feel of the car. Maybe I'll wait till I go to Hershey for the swap meet next month... I wonder if I could find one there?
I'm sure my shocks are shot, but I have no way of knowing - 63k miles. The car feels fine to me, but I'm no expert at all. When I had the PPI done last year at 59k miles I asked them if the shocks were shot as I knew they would say yes, given it's age, but they said they were ... fine! They can't be right, can they?
The slippery slope isn't possible for me right now as we're a bit cash strapped.

Steve,
Lots of folks shocks have gone long before your mileage but you know that. Heck, if you trust your shop and they say that are fine and they fit your driving style, be hard to spend the money when it doesn't seem broken. Looks like you got the shocks that Porsche should have provided. Ones that can last for over 50k miles. If you were to decide to drive in a more spirited fashion, DE's, etc., I'd change the shocks and maybe the springs.
Sounds like you need to get that steering wheel.
Let us see pictures when you get it. All of the wheels that appeal to me don't have an airbag but I don't think I'm going to switch and lose the bag of air.
Good luck,
chuck-----I started this post previously and accidentally submitted it before I was finished. At least, that is what I thought occurred. I haven't seen it so maybe I was having a flashback.

Dark Side...yes, definitely dark side...aggressive cams, mechanical lifter conversion, raceware studs, mild porting, Romulus mufflers, intake, springs, comp chip, LW flywheel, clutch... Long live the Dark Side...

I thought when I bought mine, I'd keep it pristine and original...ya know that Porsche Purist feel.
AAAHHH....as soon as I got on this board.....all that was thrown out the freakin' window within two minutes.
Make my slope as slippery as possible. Throw some lube on that slope as a matter of fact....
OOPPS...did I just say that.....Wifey may have been a bit influential there.
Happy Saturday Motoring to all 993'ers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS...Phil McGrath....I know us Rhode Island boys like to put up the front from time to time...but ah..."bone stock"....ya right...who you kiddin' !!!!

With the exception of RSRs and aluminum guage rings,
upgraded to all OEM Porsche pieces:
euro TT bumper cover with TTS airscoops
ROW springs/shocks, larger euro TT bars
Aluminum/beige leather shifter and brake handle
Alum C4S door sills
Motorsound airbox
and the finale- the TT tail!
