Default HVAC lighting

So tonight was the first time I drove my new to me 993 at night. I noticed the HVAC control panel had no backlighting, so I couldn't see to adjust temperature and airflow. Are the controls supposed to be backlit like the other controls? I would assume so. Advice on a fix would be appreciated.

After reading a bit, are there multiple bulbs behind the HVAC CCU? It seems there are bulbs behind the switches for A/C and defrosting (yellow) and separate bulbs for the fan controls (white). ALL of mine are out, so could this be a fuse that's blown?

There are two B8.4D 0,9W bulbs for the dial and rotating **** backlighting. In addition, there are miniature bulbs inside the switches for backlight and ON lights. All of them are normal yellowish incandescent bulbs. Later 993 switches have LED lights.
The switch miniature bulbs are not at all easy to replace, and the switches are difficult to dismantle without destroying them. Search here on the forum for details. The switch caps disintegrate and the catches break off. I spend about an hour or two on two switches when refurbishing and fitting LED's in them.
Cheers,
Tore

Thanks, Tore. The photos are very helpful. This still has me wondering why all of the lights are out. That seems unlikely which has me curious about a blown fuse, maybe. Is there a fuse that would control the HVAC lights alone?

Well, it turns out that the CCU isn't working at all, which is a new issue and explains all the lights being out. Back to the drawing board...

I bet Fuse 1 is blown, check the two main cabin blowers.
See this web page, chapter CCU power supply and fuses for an overview of the CCU power supplies.
Cheers,
Tore

Thanks, Tore. I replaced Fuse 1 but that was unsuccessful. I'll check in with my local mechanic tomorrow.

Mystery solved! I had 30k service performed on Thursday and they forgot to reconnect the wiring harness that runs over the pollen filter housing which apparently powers the CCU.

Annoying but a simple fix.

Now that's the kind of fix I like! Glad you got it working again.
