Question OT: Track Shoes

A relatively new DE participant wants to know what track shoes people like or are buying.
What is your experience?: Piloti, OMP, Simpson, etc. ?
(Skip Barber suggests getting them before attending the 3 day school)

Miller,

I have a pair of Piloti and a pair of Sparco.

The Piloti can be use both on and off the track whereas the Sparco is only on track use for me...

I use and like Sparco. Be aware that the Skippy cars have a very small foot area with closly spaced pedals. You NEED racing shoes or wrestling shoes or you are going to have trouble working the pedals in these cars.

I have used the Simpson and was very happy. After 4 events though they cracked at the sole in the middle. I just got the Porsche Sparco's from the Factory and I cant wait to use them. They feel very soft, like a glove!

Street car, right???? What the heck do you need race shoes fro????

Get Rockport ProWalker; used them for years and see no need for anything else. Can even use them outside the car.

I don't have them but I talked with the owner of Northstar Motorsports www.northstarmotorsports.com and he said he liked the Diadora driving shoes best. They are made with kangaroo leather and if the sole wears out they can re-sole them. The uppers last forever according to Mr. Ruther.
Here is a direct link to the shoes, they have low and high top versions. They are not cheap but a just a few $$ more than the sparcos.

Having said that I am using a pair of Simpsons that I have had for several years now. When they totally wear out maybe I will get these.

If you have big feet like me, racing shoes make a big difference. I usually even wear them when I go for a drive now. You'll probably have to mail order them; what I did was order a bunch of different kinds and sizes from OG, so I could try them all on. I'm really glad I did that. I tried the fanciest and midrange sparcos, and the simpson, and ended up liking the simpson the best by far--but thats all personal preference.

I use Worth Racing Shoes from
http://www.bellmotorsports.com

They do not have the cache of a
brand such as Sparco, etc but they
are a well made SFI 5 shoe that fit
my EEE's like a slipper. About $70.

http://www.ompusa.com might be worth
checking out also.

If you are going to be doing a lot of
driving in a suit, you might want to get
a high top shoe. That will allow you to
tuck the cuff of the suit into the shoe
and give a bit more protection. The high
top also covers the entire ankle. An ankle
injury can be tough to recover from.

bought 2 pair of the piloti low tops (red and black) they are not as thin soled as others out there, but I wear them casually also.

i was the only person at skip school with piloti's. Most people used OMP, Sparco or wrestling shoes!

I've go the Piloti mid-tops and find they work very well in the Porsche. The stiffer sole then most other racing shoes makes heel-toeing very easy.
