I am a little confused about the belt size for the updated fan pulley. By searching around the list most people mention that the belt has changed. According to the TSB its has only changed for the Turbo. I am ordering the update now, what belt do I order? I have included the TSB below.
Cheers,
Mike

Alternator - Belt Failure or Belt Noises

This Bulletin replaces bulletin, Group 1, # 7/97, dated 7-10-97.
New Alternator Pulley and Belt
Vehicle Type:
911 Carrera as of M.Y. 1995 and 911 Turbo as of M.Y. 1996
Model Year:
As of 1995 (S)
Concern:
In case of alternator belt failure or belt noises in conjunction with pulley, part number, 993 106 268 00 (s/s to 993 106 268 01), the alternator belt and pulley must be replaced.
Information:
911 Turbo:
When repairs are necessary, install only the new version belt and pulley halves.
Description Part Number
New belt (1 ea.) 999 192 372 50 (757 mm long)
Pulley halves (2 ea.) 993 106 268 01 (Yellow, chromated color) *
Shim (0.5 mm) 964 106 268 31 (as required)
Shim (0.7 mm) 964 106 268 32 (as required)
* The ratio of 2.68 to 1 remains unchanged.
911 Carrera:
The new version pulleys can also be installed on the 911 Carrera. However, the previous version belt must be used.
Description Part Number
Previous belt (1 ea.) 999 192 343 50 (760 mm long)
When installing the new version pulley halves on the 911 Carrera and Turbo, the distance spacer, (see arrow, illustration) is machined as part of the new version pulley and is no longer required. Because of this, it is no longer possible to store adjustment shims behind the distance spacer on the outside of the alternator pulley. Shims removed during the tensioning procedure should be stored in the vehicle tool kit. The tensioning procedure can be found in Repair Group 13, page 13-32.The new version pulleys can also be installed on the 911 Carrera. However, the previous version belt must be used.
Cheers,
Mike

Mike.. I'd seriously look at getting the RS single pulley instead. Instead of spending $60 for the pulley halves, you could spend $100 and get the RS pulley instead.
Advantages:
Easier to replace the fan belt if it should break. Can _actually_ be done roadside.
Usually, when the alternator belt breaks, it takes out the other 2 belts ( fan/AC ) With 1 less belt, this possibility is reduced.
Cleans up the engine bay
Disadvantages:
Spins the alternator _slightly_ slower. So there is a therotical decrease in charging time. However, of the many people on the board who have done this, none have had any charging issues.
Here's a link to an alterantor DIY that we did where we also upgraded to the RS pulley.

Note the dremel'ing that we had to do to get the existing setup off. If you look at the final pic, you'll see that there are just standard hex head bolts which hold the fan belt pulley in place instead of those $%#^Q&* 5 MM allen bolts.

Hi Jeff,
Oh crap I screwed up. What an idiot! I have ordered the RS hub but for some reason I thought I needed the pulleys for the hub and might as well go for the update. Duhhhh, the update is for the alternator, not the fan pulley. BTW, I already have the fan off and the hub pressed off...its was quite easy since I had the engine out of the car anyways.
BTW, the hex bolts came out no problem, and I used a pully puller to pull the fan off...again no problem. I had to use my shop press to press the hub out of the fan....no problem there. I guess my luck had to run out given I now have odered both the RS hub and a pulley update that has no use. Its a special order so I might have to eat it....sigh. Anyone want the updated pulleys cheap? ;-)
Cheers,
Mike
BTW: I deal with Weissach (www.weissach.com) beause its close to me. Great prices for the RS hub and they are a Rennlist sponsor. Not affiliated with them but a satisfied customer.
