Post Passport 8500 LASER Alert

First off, please don't use this as an excuse to start an Escort vs. V-1 debate!

Have any 8500 users noticed false LASER alarms? On my way back from lunch today, the LASER alarm went off twice....scared the bejenkins out of me both times. I couldn't find the cop and have never encountered a real laser threat in the area. I wasn't speeding so maybe he was hidden somewhere and didn't come out....

I get some false Laser warnings from my V-1. Often this is when the sun is streaming through trees - I think the scatter of the light causes the detector to see what it thinks is laser. Also, on the V-1, if you cover and then uncover the sensor on the front of the unit, it will generate a false alarm. I imagine the 8500 is subject to the same sort of things.

I frequently receive false laser readings in my V1 and only receive an occasional false laser reading in my 8500. Still prefer the V1 though!

I have received a few laser alerts from my V1 that I'm pretty sure are falses; but I've also had a couple of laser alerts here in Houston that preceded an HPD car swooping down on someone & pulling them over!

I hadn't thought HPD did laser at all. Too much trouble, and a high risk of dropping one's donut :-)

The last time was just a few days ago; and I saw the cruiser parked on the inside shoulder, downstream from the top of an incline, with the driver's door open. Presumably he was leaning out the door pointing back up at traffic, although I couldn't see the driver. I pulled off at the next exit (was going ~80, my V1 alerted) and rolled through the adjacent neighborhood. Came back out upstream of traffic, came back down the onramp, and he was parked right there on the outside shoulder, he'd pulled someone else over.

I think he must have been aiming just at the inside lane(s) of traffic, I had been all the way over to the right; but I'm curious how I managed to catch enough light for an alert, unless he was just waving the thing around while reaching for another donut...?
