New to the Forum
I was only a kid when I read about these in Car and Driver - can’t believe I own one now!
I purchased the car locally - it was in great shape mechanically but there are a lot of little cosmetic to dos on my list...
1) Noisy rear spoiler retraction. Fixed thanks to this forum! The old bearing was quite rusty - totally shot. Interestingly the plastic housing that protects the mechanism was stamped 2018 and the outer gear was well coated in grease - I wonder if the previous owner tried to have it fixed. Regardless my effort was successful.
2) Broken passenger side headlight washer. I know lots of people delete these but I elected to replace it. The old plastic was so brittle it shattered grabbing it with pliers and came right out.
3) Wear to the drivers side bolster - I suspect I will try a repair kit from Colourlock. It’s not too bad but could use a touch up. The interior is in Cedar Green.
4) A previous owner replaced the right and left lower bumper pieces with either the Aerokit or look alikes. Unfortunately they have been left in white primer rather than the appropriate GP white. There are a handful of stone chips near the front bumper that have been a bit inexpertly touched up. I’m not sure if I want to invest in the real Aerokit, just have these bumper parts painted to match, or purchase the original lower bumper parts. Either way there will be painting involved - do I respray the bumper too? Go whole hog for a glass out restoration? The paint overall looks great. There are just a few stone chips on the front bumper and front edge of the hood. The car was in a minor accident back in 1996 and had the front bumper painted then so I’m not worried about preserving original paint (at least on the bumper - as for the rest of it, maybe).
5) One of the rear speakers is blown and the front speakers are very quiet. I will replace the rears and do some investigating on the front. I didn’t purchase this car for the stereo (the engine sounds awesome!), but I do want it to function correctly.
6) Most of the gaskets look great but the ones around the door handles have completely dry rotted - I have the gaskets on order.
7) There are a few clear coat/paint chips on the wheels. I haven’t made a decision about what to do about these yet.
8) The middle rear red plastic looks a bit faded - debating if I just replace it or do an LED conversion while I’m messing with lighting. The headlights lenses look just a bit faded too...
As for the good parts - I love the GP white with cedar green interior. The suspension has been recently redone with Bilsteins. The valve cover gaskets have just been replaced. No oil leaks. Only 51k miles so far. The HVAC works well.
Here she is! Man I really need to do something about the front lower bumper pieces...

Congratz - one of my three favorite colors for a 993!

I would drive the car for a while and decide how much the paint issues and splitters bother me. If you do the minimum fix you may find the issue recedes in importance or maybe not over time. My car is a daily driver so I keep the paint looking presentable but don't worry about viewing from six inches issues.
Here are my thoughts on paint in general

The fronts may be torn /blown as well and can explain how quiet they are here are some ideas on audio:

A very easy DIY project.

If you will be driving the car to any great extent mishaps causing these will continue. My car has quite a few and I am waiting for a few more to accumulate before repainting.

Your decision when to replace the middle reflector as they do seem to dull up. I suspect rubbing it out with a foam wheel or over spraying it with a urethane clear coat will shine it up quite a bit.
The front lenses are glass and don't haze up like modern car's lenses. I would pop the headlamp pods out and open them up and clean them. Releasing the clips that hold the lens on need a delicate touch as for some reason the factory saw fit to lock the clips down by melting them. The melting can be broken loose easily with a mat knife. The internal silvered reflector is easily scratched so use care in cleaning it.
Hope the above helps,
