Question Tiptronic conversion?

I checked the archives and found Rick's post about converting a tiptronic to a 6 speed. There were only two opinions one said about changing the DME box and the other poster said that the casing is different therefore it is not possible to do the conversion.
I have found a high milaege tip coupe at a perfect price which would be a great starting point for a track/DE car. I have a G50/21 box on the way soon, so getting a 6 speed box is not an issue. While I know that getting an already moded 993 is a much better option on the long run, still my budget has srunk for the time being plus the fact that I really want to be very involved into building the car slowly up ( for learning purposes) makes this kind of purchase a must for me.
So can someone give me a definite answer to what is involved with this conversion? Either that or does someone know of a high milaege 993 6 speed coupe in the mid 20's?

Thanks!

Danny,
I looked long & hard at this but decided not to proceed (as my signature implies). I was never able to find someone who had done it but was told by one place (I think it was Powerhaus) that they felt that they could do it. I didn't feel like being their first project.

I got a real quotation from GermanTech (Techart rep) who said that it would actually require some engine case modifications - their price was $18,000 and included a new transmission. The quote actually came from Joe Vatter at GermanTech if you want to give him a ring to discuss.

Candidly, they were the only people I found who could give me any credible answers.
Best of luck you you.
Rick

Thanks guys for your input, I will keep on looking then. For months now I have been looking very hard to find a chassis , theft recovery or something, to built on but no luck yet. Only heavily smashed cars and lots of 964's which may at the end be my ticket...If someone comes across a high milaege 993 or a 993 straight rolling coupe chassis please let me know!

Thanks again! <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Danny:
Here is a link to a central website that offers many Porsche/European salvage yards around the country. You may want to contact these operations and have them contact you should your desired Porsche become available. You do not want to let the right car get away!
Good luck.

hallo
The Engine, Motronic, and most of the Car is the same . You need the shifterlinkage,Pedalassembly,
Shifter and Bracket ,Halfshafts ,Gearbox , Starter and some minor Parts .All together maybe 4500-5000$ .Depending on your Skills you can do the Conversion in 2-4 Days .
I have done it on a 964 , that is a little more work (throttlebody is different)
