Can anyone tell me if a cdr220 unit from a boxster or 996 will fit a 993?

Yes it will. However, you will have to get a modified face plate from Becker to be able to see the display well (something to do with the angle of viewing from drivers seat). That said the unit can be used with the face plate it has on it but it is difficult to read the display.

Yes. You will also need to remove/discard the metal surround from the 993 head unit...996 one doesn't need it. Becker will sell you a new face plate for $50 if I recall, otherwise you won't be able to read the LED display due to angle of face

You should also get the aux in cables and the removal tools from becker while you do the faceplate. Only a few bucks extra.
