Red face Grease / oil on seats

After having some service work done at a shop, I got the car back to find grease and / or oil on the front seats. I have tried Lexol cleaner and conditioner a couple times, and that has made a difference somewhat, but a bit still resides.

Has anyone had any luck with another product that I could try?

Thanks.

If its oil/grease you will need a degreaser, but mild enought so it does not hurt the leather. I would take some simple green and diltute it down and whip on/off. Vary the mix until something works. Dry it off and then lexol the heck out of it, or use some other product that you like.

BTW, where is the oil/grease and how bad is it?

Are you going to go back to the shop and raise $#$?

It's almost like the mechanic had it on the back of his shirt and on his pants. The strange part is that it's on both front seats. It's a shame because the seats were in immaculate condition before.

Thanks for the Simple Green suggestion. I'll read up about it so that I don't stand a chance of ruining the leather. In the end, if it doesn't work, this just may get me to plop down the money for sport seats.

And I don't know if it'd be worth going back to the shop since it was many months ago. I figured that I'd be able to get the grease or oil out. <img src="graemlins/cussing.gif" border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" />

Matt,

DO NOT USE SIMPLE GREEN ON YOUR SEATS !!! Ask me how I know Even in an extremely dilute solution, the acid will just eat through your leather.

I would suggest a 10:1 solution of demineralized water and a solvent called Oil Eater (costco). It's a powerful degreaser, but when diluted properly is gentle enough to be used on leather, and it is not acidic at all. If you want to stop by next weekend, I have some in the garage. It'll take 5 minutes.

cheers,

sean

Try Wurth degreaser. I suspect the grease is in the pigments of the leather. But that should get it out. Or go to a leather shop, get a estimate and send bill to repair shop. Before doing anything with any degreaser try inconspicuous area first. If dealer did the damage I would press them first to repair.

Matt,

1. Take photos before you do anything! The auto shop should have insurance to pay for this sort of thing if necessary. You might want to bring it to their attention BEFORE you try to clean it.

2. Test the cleaner in a low visibility area.

3. Be sure to treat the leather with a quality leather care product after cleaning. The solvent will remove both the grease and the natural oils that keep the leather from cracking.

Good luck!
