Sorry for a stupid question, but what is a LWF?

Thanx...

Suwipin,
That’s not a stupid question at all. LWF means “light weight flywheel.”

I've got the LWF also, and agree that there is a certain "cement-mixer" quality to the sound at idle. It is very slight, and not very loud, unless you've got the windows down. Idling inside the garage seems to make it more apparent. It wasn't too bad at all, and sort of reminds me of a Ducati's flat-slide carburetor/dry clutch basket jingle. If you've got the right perspective, a not wholly unpleasant noise. Since then, I've had a roll cage welded in, rear seats removed and all the (heavy) sound insulation removed. The cement-mixer sound is now much more prevalent. I'd guess that it's at least 3 times louder than before. Again, it's a matter of perspective.

D.J., how much did all that sound insulation weigh? I’ve got no plans to remove it, I’m just curious.

And do you spend a lot of time in a closed garage idling the car? Maybe that explains some things!

(No insult intended, I’m just being a for some !)

What brand of gear oil are you using?

Actually this is an excellent question. I'm using Swepco, and have heard that Mobil Synthetic might be quieter!

Curious what the "quiet" tranny group is using??

If I remember correctly, rear seats, seatbelts, and insulation was ~58 pounds.

I think there's some merit here with which type of tranny fluid to use. My next tranny fluid change will get Mobil Synthetic, and I'll see if there's a difference.

Based on the comments above, it seems that all LWF folks should rattle at idle, but that's not the case. I have Swepco, and I rattle. 993RS has Mobil, and doesn't rattle. Others?

Connect A, to B, to C....

I'd be distracted if I was surrounded by excessive Speed Yellow, too!

Cheers, Maurice
