Default Supercharger

Has anybody installed the supercharger? Is it worth it or is it better to upgrade to a turbo model?

TPC is best bang for buck power upgrade for 993 IMHO.
If you got the cash - buy the 993 turbo.
SC could well be the better car to drive - linear power.
Relatively easy to install if you have the skills - only need basic tools.
But you will want it tuned properly to avoid bombing your engine.
Still going to cost you a chunk of money to buy and install the SC - but you won't find better value to performance ratio.
993 turbo prices sky high.

The TPC SC is a great add on, will cost some $$$ to do it right and have it properly tuned to your car. I did mine over ten years ago and I always smile when I drive it.

No regrets...

Search this forum, there is a bunch of info, pix, etc... I put up a number of pix over the years.

Based on your post count I’d say you’re quite green so I’ll start from the beginning.

TPC use to manufacture a roots style supercharger for the 993. The hardware was pretty well made and thought out. To deal with the extra fueling requirements they installed a piggy back fuel controller and added a 7th injector to spray fuel directly into the intake manifold. That is the Achilles heel of the setup. Some here have taken the time and $$$ to properly deal with the fueling/timing by installing larger injectors and having the car custom tuned. When taking that approach the supercharger delivers spectacular results! It’s far better to drive than the dyno numbers would indicate. We’ve all raved at how “fun” the car was even with the experiences of 600+ HP turbo builds. I stand power with tons of torque. Feels more like a V8 than a turbo.

Newer versions had a 7th and 8th injector added to the setup. And the sc unit was upgraded as well.

Great info, can you help the OP determine the differences visually?

Did the kit ever evolve to include the TVS series? It was a big leap in efficiency from the older roots style. That would be a pretty epic combination!

Best to call TPC and talk to Tom. He is very knowledgeable on this and can answer all your questions.

Good luck...

Will this fit under a stock (non-turbo or 'S') rear lid?

No it will not fit without minor modification to the stock lid.
The snout will protrude into the underside of the engine lid. Minor cutting of metal needs to be made. Lowing the engine with a few washes also helps.
Install instructions do not mention this at all.

Here is a pix of my SC install. The air cleaner housing was hand made by me. The aluminum SC parts were smoothed, grit blasted and gold anodized by myself too.

Take your time and do things right!!!

Mr Bock has a lovely setup. Love the color matching.
That is the 1st gen TPC SC kit with 7th injector and using the Eaton M90 Gen III SC unit.
No charge cooler on this setup.
Also I believe 1st gen had the heat pipe for internal AC heating and later generations did not.
Boost will be very good on Mr Bock's setup.

user quasr posted these pics in 2007.
Updated TPC SC unit with 7th and 8th injector built into the manifold.
If you look at the 2nd picture you can see the cut in the stock engine lid - just below the spoiler motor.

There are also 3 different versions of the SC discharge pipe depending on the version.
And about 2/3 different versions of the pipe work configuration for the charge cooler from TPC.

The Eaton Gen 4 is slightly more efficient than the Gen 3. Gen 4 generates slightly less heat at a given RPM and goes out of its efficiency range later than the Gen 3 unit.
Each generation of the TPC SC unit has bee improved over time.

Last pic is current version on sale.
