My old Vesuvio C2S and looking for a replacement Vesuvio C2S
I though this would be a build summary thread unfortunately instead it’s basically a WTB. I have been looking for a 1998 Vesuvio Metallic Carrera S for about two months now if anyone saw my WTB in the classifieds or my posts on the RL 993 FB group. I had owned one since 2016 after fortuitously finding it through a quickly deleted RL post from a now banned member. My 993 met its unfortunate demise back in May after a steering lock failure that resulted some severe front tub and underbody damage (including a shift of the a-pillar and roof between the passenger door and roof of about 3/4” as the impact was severe) and some engine damage from the engine running a few mins after the accident while the oil lines were damaged until I could get the car turned off because the ignition was locked on. The insurance co totaled the car and my shop and I after inspecting the car decided to let it go. Now I’m looking for a replacement...If anyone knows of a 98’ Carrera S in Vesuvio and MT in any condition or mileage so long as no prior accidents (been there done that) for sale or has one and wants to sell please PM me!
This was the day I picked it up from the car carrier back in 2016
The engine and suspension rebuild in 2017
at the body shop for the sunroof delete, paint work and interior refresh...
after a two year mechanical and cosmetic restoration at the PCA Boardwalk Reunion 2019
Finally back home after being stuck at the PPF shop for some touch ups during the Covid-19 lockdown
Back at the body shop after the accident
and at the salvage yard...
Finally for those brave enough with deep enough pockets and/or too much time on their hands go for it...Keep in mind they damaged the car further when they picked it up by manhandling it and they got the motor running when it shouldn’t have been.

PS - I don’t have any parts for sale and I don’t have the car - click the link above if you want to bid on the salvage - it’s with IAAI.

I have seen you're WTB post and have kept an eye out for one ever since its original posting ... will continue the effort until you find a suitable replacement!
Glad to see you kept the hardbacks

Such an unfortunate loss ... truly sad to read and view the cringe-worth pics. Not to force you into reliving what happened but ... would you mind expanding on the steering lock failure you experienced?

I really appreciate it, thank you. I had noticed some issues starting the car where the steering and ignition would not turn would turn easily but though nothing of it, turns out my steering lock was damaged/failing from who knows what, time, tampering at one time, I don't know, I always had to fool with the wheel and key to get the key to turn and steering wheel to unlock but I chalked it up to a 23 year old car. So that was the warning sign it should turn smooth or just need a slight turn of the wheel to unlock and be able to start the car. I had just gotten the car back and we were driving out the NW NJ when we hit a tight section doing about 25-30 mph through a quick right then left leading into a long straight and after the left the I heard a click and the wheel wouldn't move back the the right or recenter it felt just like when your car is off and the steering wheel locks like its hitting a bump stop almost. I couldn't turn the wheel back and before I knew it I was headed straight off the road where there unfortunately happened to be a rocky outcrop which i slammed into and up on to.

Yea absolutely, no injuries and no property damage other than the car. Even at that speed hitting an immoveable object was didn't feel good, the car took all of it. They are amazingly well built vehicles.

Looking for a specific Year/Model/Color is sort of like setting one's self up to try to purchase some unobtanium?
The hardest part will be finding a candidate in the color you want regardless of year.
