Default Upgraded Sound Added

I have just purchased 97 - 993 Cab. It is on its way to me now. In going through the paperwork, I found this on the original invoice. It already shows the Hi-Fi sound package option. Just wondering what the "Upgrade Sound Added" might be and if it was a dealer install? Any thoughts?

Hi Scott,
A factory option:
Power amp under seat, may have a DSP in door,
  • Base reflex three-way speaker enclosures on front doors
  • Tweeter pod on front doors near vent window.
  • Two way rear deck speakers.

Most folks replace the speaker elements as the original are dried out and torn.
Some restore with exact same some upgrade with aftermarket speakers.
The system is a bit underpowered and out of date so most any upgrade improves sound
Most any aftermarket speakers are an improvement as well.
See below:

Hope this helps,
Andy

that's almost $3K in audio system from the factory, would have been able to put in a hell of an aftermarket system for that in 1997!

No kidding. Could have an unbelievable system. Was the motor sound mufflers direct from the factory or did you add? How is the sound. I’m thinking of adding it to mine.

Isn't this just the HiFi option? Doesn't explain the extra $1995..
OP - any indication of extra ingredients on top of what's listed? CD changer? Upgraded head unit? Sub woofer?

I believe the original owner had the dealer install Motor Sound Mufflers and Tips on the car at purchase, as I did not have the Motor Sound Airbox (no chrome) and my sticker did not indicate either of them on the Options list. In any event, they were on the car when I purchased it from the second owner.

I installed the Fabspeed 200cell cats, and I think it is a great sound combination with the Motor Sounds, a healthy growl but not loud by any stretch. I like it, and since I live in a suburban neighborhood, it is quiet enough not to make me "THAT NEIGHBOR". I did drill out the airbox, to emulate the MS airbox, at cruising speed it is not really any louder than stock by much.

Yes, I seem to recall a basic Alpine head back then was $400. Today there are dozens of good options in the $100 or less range.
