Default OBD fault P0001 ?

OBD P0001 fault ?

I am moving into my second 993. Seems every time I get an old sports car. I am the 'fall guy'. The person who takes the time to get it right after all the years of minimal care.I don't mind and actually enjoy it. Like saving the old dog at the animal rescue.
So here we go again, same old story new with my "new' 1997 993.
Had it 1 week. Day 1 - battery died, day 2 fuel relay stopped working. Finally 5 days later with new relay and battery, she fires right up.
I drive it 10 happy miles only to see the check engine light. ...

OBD says - fault 0001. (fuel filter, fuel regulator...)

Anyone have experience with this?
The current plan is to change out the fuel filter . One has to de-pressurize the fuel system to change the filter, so I am going to change out the fuel regulator at the same time.
But I must say the car runs great. No sputtering, stalling... Cranks right up. Really does not seem like a fuel delivery problem.
So ... it is a bit curious.

Hi Motocarlo,
Not sure where the fault is from, maybe a misinterpreted code using code reader not compatible with a 993 or a communication port problem as I do not see a 0001 listed fault on the 993 OBDC-II list:
What reader are you using?

I would clear the code, fill the tank and give it an Italian tune up first. Sounds more like lack of use.

edit: to depressurize, pull the DME while engine is running.

You may have put our finger on it Andy. I was wondering about that. I am simply using a standard obd II. Inexpensive reader not specifically for Porsche. But I have used it on other European cars with success. And it actually went through the entire scan process on my 993. No error code along the way.
Also when I googled it, a few Porsche guys chimed in with the 0001 code. So it does not seem to be that rare. The usual comment is fuel delivery. (regulator / filter ) But like I said ... does not seem a delivery problem because it runs so well. So perhaps it is time to get a new reader.
What code reader do your use with your 993?

I like the code reader from our friend Tore shown here: https://www.bergvillfx.com/index.php...agnostics.html. Only $85, but unfortunately out of stock right now. It is used with a Windows PC and the free ScanTool software, capable of testing pretty much everything on a 993.

Misfire CELs can come and go on a 993 even from just starting the car and shutting it off without going for a full warm-up run or letting it sit at a slow uneven idle when starting without blipping the throttle once or twice. A dirty or slightly loose distributor cap, a dirty rotor commonly throws a cel for a misfire. In such cases, the CEL in some cases resets and goes out with no noticeable performance issues along the way.

Thanks. That is comforting info.
This car just got new plugs wires dist caps and rotors and runs like a dream. I am a long time Porsche owner and known about proper warm up etc. Except for that blasted 'check engine' light and my need to get it to pass the Georgia emissions..., I'ld never know there was a problem. I cleared the code and am taking it for a run in the morning. We will see.
I appreciate the helpful input!

Here is what I optimistically am going with. The car runs great, no stalling cranking problems etc... just fantastic. Hard to imagine there is a fuel delivery problem.
I cleared the code drove it 10 miles and (so far) the check engine light has not come back on.
A short history - last week both the battery and dme(fuel relay) went bad at the same time. Go figure?
So I hope that there was a little air in the system from that the dead fuel pump which later tripped the code. Fingers crossed.
I appreciate all the input . Thanks everyone.
