I don't like not knowing what my voltage is at any given time.
In my quest to find the best option for a voltage meter, here is what I have found so far:
I bought the new Escort 8500 Radar Detector last year and hard wired it and mounted it and above my rear view mirror. It has a vdc display that you can leave showing all the time - when a radar signal is detected the vdc display drops off and then returns.
This is a good option if you need a radar detector anyway. The Escort 8500 has worked well for me and has good reviews.
I've wanted a good voltmeter too, and bought the first one you refer to in your post (from JC Whitney).
I sent it back, because my sample was off by 0.3 volts at 14 volts. Also, its a bit larger than you might think, and the display does not dim, so is obnoxiously bright at night.
Still looking for a good looking, easy to read cig lighter voltmeter....
The Sporty's device is just a souped up idiot light. There used to be a little lcd voltmeter for the cig lighter that looked good, but I haven't seen it in a long while.
Mike-A:
We have about 17 Thistles in the club dry lot, of which 5-6 are raced with any frequency - though we do have a large MC Scow fleet to handicap race against. I'm the only one in our fleet that travels to distant regattas with any regularity, though I'm hoping some new blood coming into the fleet will change that.
chip....no, i haven't but i'd like to.....does it surf well?.... i'd like to do the Scow's also , they are screamers in a blow......all my time has been on J's .... 24's and now the 105..... my guess is given enough time most the guys on this list will eventually. gravitate to sailing , eh?......guess we hijacked this one....sorry dale
