Default Oil cooler theory

Ok I studied what Porsche did with the stock Oil
cooler with an areo engineer friend of mine. It appears
that the stock cooler (at least in my TT) is mounted 90
degrees to the air flow into the passenger side air duct. It would
be more efficient if it was mounted normal to the air flow.
It would seem a high pressure area builds up in the cooler
duct forcing the air to turn 90 degrees through the oil cooler
then exhuasting through the low pressure side of the
lower duct on the lower side of the
passenger side of the turbo bumper. It appears that a additional
cooler could be mounted normal to the air flow and the air would
flow through the first cooler and redirected through the stock
cooler. the problem with this is the first cooler will be efficient
but the sTock cooler will lose effieciency because the seondary
air that goes through there will be heated by the first cooler,
as heat is disapated and exhausted there. an other place to
put a cooler is under the front bumper but there is a tub there.
Is that the trunk tub?? it sits right where the exhaust flow
would be from a cooler placed in the middle scoop of the
turbo bumper. I havent has time to look at the drivers side
scoop yet. The middle scoop just below the bumper is attractive
because of the long measurement of the opening. But that tub
gets in the way. thoughts? A nice long cooler would fit great right
where a cooler would be on an old RSR.

Oldguy,

Yes, that center spot is perfect. Run the exhaust ducting up, through the front of your new, carbon fiber hood. You're well on your way to morphing your beautiful car into a full time racer! Ask a guy who's been there!

Not so old guy is right on. That is where the oil cooler should be. I had this set up on my former Porsche, a 80SC. I had an B&B type oil cooler with no special ducting...although the special ducting is the way to go for a race car.

Earlier today, there was post on the Board about a company in SoCal that sells Oil Coolers.

One of these coolers, some creative plumbing and body work, and you'd be the coolest guy in Ridgecrest!!!

Someone should develop a Kit that includes a template for what and where to cut to install an aux cooler in the center of the front bumper, the necessary oil lines, etc.

Martin I am working on it. Perma Cool sells all kinds of oil coolers
to desert racers, I gotta figure it out and I will let you guys know.
Looks like $800 tops for 600-700Hp cooler, ducting and
500 PSI lines/fittings.
